The calming effect of walking at night

I'm at it again. Now that I'm back home, I can take those lovely nightly constitutionals again. Good for the mind and soul. And boy was it a beautiful night to take one. It was perfect, relaxing, and calming, just what I needed.

For a little background

The shadows dancing under the street lamps

The air crisp and cool.
Dew on the grass.
The half mood high in the west.
The smell of lilacs permeating the air.

Only the sounds
of that ever so slight breeze
blowing through the tops of the trees,
and that crunching scrape
of my shoe on pavement.

Stopping to take those clean breaths of air in.

Peaceful, serene, and beautiful.

Looking up through the tree tops,
brushing by various trees,
watching as the stars seem to dance
with every step I take.

My shadow dancing too,
growing and shrinking
under each street lamp.

Thoughts wash away,
fear and anger seem...
so inconsequential,
drifting away,
if even just for a short time.

The silhouettes
of buildings and trees,
painted against the starry sky.

Life melts down,
becomes so simple.
The complexities
and intricacies
broken down into tiny bits.

You question,
"Why can't life be like this all the time?"

The answer is never there,
the truth, just out of reach.

But for those few minutes,
that doesn't matter at all,
and life is simple,
life is...

to be loved.

Loving life
and all the small details,
the details that so so many
overlook, miss, and ignore.

Stepping back
for those few moments,
all life's problems
and drama
just fall away
and things become so clear.

So many things
that you take for granted during the day,
you can learn to appreciate so much more,
just take away the light,
and the sound,
and all the senses enhance,
and it's all...

just better.

Life is just better.
