Fair warning

I like the idea of holidays having "eves." In the case of New Year's Eve, it's really more the focus of celebration than New Years Day itself. But in the case of Christmas, it feels, at least in the modern world, like a warning buzzer: it's your last friggin' day to get ready, boyo.

Well New Years day is an insanely big deal in Philadelphia, but for most places, I agree. (I grew up in Mummer country. We'd get up early and stay glued to the set all day to watch the parade until 8 or 9 at night. A lot of people would go see it live, but I prefer peeing where it's warm and having snacks.

It's funny, living my whole life in the PNW... it always suprises me to learn that there really is some cultural variation in the U.S. So New Year's Day is a big deal in Philadelphia. Who knew?!?
