There are things that will now only run on Yosemite. But does my "ancient" MacBook Pro (8Gb 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7) have the power to run it? Has anyone out there doen it and will it work?
I'd imagine you'd be fine. Successive OS X releases don't tend to be particularly more demanding of the computer.
Myself, I'd sign up for the El Capitan beta and run with that - though it would be as well to check for any current issues for critical apps, eg the MacRumors forum thread: Working & Non-Working Apps, given it is still in beta. (Personally, I've been unaffected, though if I still used it, I would've had to upgrade my rather crusty Parallels Desktop 8)
