The "Pick-up Artist"

We live on a busy street in Central Austin, where tons of UT students walk by all day long.

Trey thinks this is the coolest thing ever... In the evenings, we sit outside so he can play on his slide, but really so I can watch him try to pick up the college girls!

He has a pretty standard approach - he makes eye contact, and if they don't smile immediately, he sticks his hand up, policeman style and says "Hey!" like he's known them for years! It hasn't failed yet... He always gets a big smile, and usually a giggle or two. Of course, my very favorite part is when there are guys with the girls - THEY just get a cold stare. I'm pretty sure he intimidates some of them! (of course it probably also starts the whole "so don't you want kids someday..." discussion, and what college guy wouldn't be intimidated by that?!?)

It's not just the girls though... He's also a big animal lover and never fails to tell me if a dog is walking by while he's looking out the bay window. We have "met" lots of the neighbors' pets, and the two-block walk to the park can take 20 minutes as he has to check out who's home and remind me which houses might have doggies coming out. On a really good day, we might get to talk to a few dogs, a cat, and maybe even some other kids before we get there! This kid is not going to like leaving this place in a few years...
