Chapter 2
"I... I can't remember..." Umika said, gasping.
"I don't remember anything..." She said, panic in her voice and then she clutched at her head again and moaned.
"Lie down!" Chinen said, panicky. He sat on the side of the bed and guided her down.
"I can't remember..." She continued and then she closed her eyes as if in pain.
"You don't have to remember!" Chinen said. "Don't think about it just now!"
She looked at him; her eyes so worried, so unsure, so innocent...
Chinen's face soften. "Don't worry... I'll help you. Don't worry about it just now."
She slowly nodded at him, though there was still fear in her eyes.
"Well, uhm, can I get anything for you? Are you hungry? I think I have food downstairs. Do you want rice? Or maybe fruits? I have mangoes and strawberries and cherries---"
Umika perked up at that.
"You like cherries?" Chinen asked.
She blushed and nodded.
He smiled. "Coming right up."
He stood up and made his way out the room, closing the door as he left.
Umika was left alone in the room.
She sat up. The throbbing to her head had stopped.
She surveyed the room.
It was a simple but beautiful room. There wasn't much furnitures so it was spacious.
It was quite bright. Umika liked that.
The few furnitures there were the color black which was a good contrast with the white walls.
There was also a big window by the side with a beautiful view of the sky.
Umika gasped as she saw it and carefully stood up.
That was when she noticed it. She was wearing a big shirt.
'It must be his...' she thought.
She smiled, and made her way to the window.
A very beautiful sky welcomed her and she instantly felt happy. She moved more closer to the window and moved the curtains half concealing the view outside.
She smiled at the blue sky. She felt very at ease now unlike earlier when he had asked her where she was from. She didn't know how to answer him.
Blank. There was nothing.
The door opened then and she abruptly turned to the direction of the sound.
It was him.
Chinen blinked when he saw her by the window, sunlight shining on her.
It was as if she was glowing. For a moment, he had imagined her with wings.
And he had flashed again to that girl in the alley.
He was surprised to see her frown at him in concern.
He blinked, he must have spaced out.
"Uhm," He started rather awkwardly. "Here's the cherries."
She smiled brightly at him. And he had found himself smiling back.
He approached her and offer her the plate with cherries.
"Thank you." She said in a small voice, taking one.
She put it in her mouth and smiled more broadly.
He inwardly chuckled. 'She really likes cherries.'
"Eat, too." She said.
Chinen nodded and took one for himself.
"What are you doing here?" He asked her. "Are you feeling okay now?"
She smiled and nodded. "I like looking at the sky." She said and surely, she had turned back to the window and looked up the sky.
Chinen looked up as well.
"Umika-san..." He called. She looked at him, smilingly.
"You... Uhmm... wings..."
Umika's eyes widien at the word and then she clutched at her head again.
Chinen dropped the plate in panic. "Are you okay? Sorry. Just ignore that." He said, guiding her back to the bed.
Umika shook her head. "I... I saw an image. Something bright... and there was a wing... a white wing and... and..." she groaned.
"You don't have to force youself." Chinen said as they finally each the bed. They both sat down.
"I'm sorry..." She said.
Chinen shook his head. "Take it easy."
She slowly nodded.
"Are you okay now?" He asked. She nodded again.
Chinen smiled and stood up, returning to where the plate and the toppled cherries were.
"Chinen-san..." She called.
He looked at her.
"Thank you for taking care of me."
He shook his head. "I'm glad to help. And you can call me Yuri."
To be continued...
