When Yuto first saw Inoo that day, the first instinct was to laugh.
It was just too comical. Sasuga from Inoo-chan.
But Yuto had fought this urge.
It would be too insensitive of him. Inoo did look sad.
Inoo was the only one in the room when he had entered. He was slumped down in a chair, eyes cast down, in the corner of the room and holding up a paper with the words, "Someone cheer me up."
The urge to laugh returned but Yuto drowned it, though allowing a small smile.
He approach Inoo and sat next to him.
"Inoo-chan." He called cheerfully.
Inoo looked up at him, dully.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Everything..." Inoo said softly.
Yuto looked at him, waiting.
Inoo sighed sadly.
"The meltthrough..." He said, weakly.
Yuto pursed his lips.
"Inoo-chan, that's hardly your problem. We're all carrying that, you know. And I'm sure the government would solve it somehow." Yuto said positively. He inwardly smiled at this. Inoo-chan is such a worrywart.
"I guess..." Inoo said, still sad. "Well, Hikaru is blonde."
Yuto actually laughed out loud at this. But Inoo didn't smile.
"Inoo-chan, I think it's fine. He looks cool, actually. It suits him. You don't have worry about it, we'll get used to it." he said.
"But I don't like blondes. I like our old Hikaru back..." Inoo said, pouting. "He reminds me of my blonde bully in Australia. And Hikaru started teasing me about that again."
Yuto smiled and patted Inoo on his back. "Forget about him." He said. He had heard about this story since way back. "And besides, blonde Hikaru might be good to you, Inoo-chan. So your blonde-phobia would finally end." He said jokingly.
Inoo was still pouting. "I'd wear a cat costume for a month, let's see how Hikaru would feel." He muttered, darkly but then he sighed and then continued with his list of problems.
"Ai-chan is graduating." He said this time.
"Ai-chan?" Yuto asked, bewildered.
"From Momusu." Inoo clarified.
"Ahh..." Yuto said and grinned. Inoo is always following girl idol-groups.
"But this would be a break for her, ne?" he told him gently.
"But Momusu will be different without her!" Inoo exclaimed.
"But maybe she'll have more solo projects..." Yuto pointed out.
"But it's still sad... Eri and Junjun and Linlin just graduated last year..." Inoo said, looking as sad as ever.
Yuto, not really knowing what to say more, only offered another pat for his older friend.
"My head hurts. Headache." Inoo said this time.
Yuto looked at him worriedly. "Is it hurting now? I have some medicine here. You want some?"
"Onegaishimasu." Inoo said.
Yuto nodded, stood up, took out the medicine and his water jug from his bag and returned to Inoo once more.
He passed the water and medicine to Inoo and Inoo obligingly took them and drank at once.
"Arigatou." Inoo said after taking a gulp of water.
Yuto nodded, though he still looked worried. Yuto was sure it was because of stress.
"The pain will go away in a while." Yuto said and Inoo nodded.
"My classmate ruined our project." Inoo continued with his list.
Yuto smiled gently at Inoo. "I'm sure it'll be okay. You'll be able to repair it. You're Inoo Kei-chan after all." He said confidently.
"It was so much work..." Inoo said weakly.
"I can help if you like." Yuto offered.
"Arigatou!" Inoo exclaimed, teary-eyed.
Yuto smiled but continued to look at Inoo, waiting. He knew those really weren't the reason his friend was sad.
"Ryuu's in a rebellious stage." Inoo said now.
"Eh?" Yuto said, taken aback.
"He's keeping something from BEST. What is happening at school, Yuto? Is he doing something bad or suspicious????" Inoo said, looking at Yuto in frustration. For a moment, Yuto could see Inoo in his mom's dress. He blinked and shook his head,
"I don't think so, Inoo-chan. I think he's having fun. He have many friends now." Yuto said, reassuringly.
Inoo still looked worried.
"We'll look after him. I promise." Yuto said.
Seriously, all of BEST are too overprotective of Ryuu and Chii.
Inoo nodded, though he still looked worried.
"Chinen have haters..." Inoo said softly.
Yuto had thought that this would come out. He had his answer ready.
"Chinen's okay." He said. "You don't have to worry about it. Chinen knows it's part of being in this industry." He let out a chuckle. "According to him, 'haters are confused admirers who can't understand why everyone loves him.' He's not letting them get to him. So Inoo-chan shouldn't as well."
Inoo had smiled at that. "Chii-chan is strong, ne..."
"Un." Yuto nodded, grinning.
They were both quiet for a while.
"What is it, really?" Yuto asked Inoo.
Inoo frowned and then sighed weakly. "Ann is sick... Her eyes are inflamed and I've done everything I could... I don't know what to do anymore..." Inoo finally said.
Yuto frowned at that. "I'm sorry to hear that..." He said sincerely.
Inoo sighed, heavily."If her disease could just turn to my headache or something." he said.
Yuto smiled sadly. "Maybe it did turn to your headache." He said, trying to be positive. "Maybe when you get home, she'll be well again."
"Maybe." Inoo said, dully.
"Come on, Inoo-chan. You have to be strong for Ann, ne?" Yuto said, playfully punching Inoo's shoulder.
Inoo finally allowed a small smile.
"Okay..." He said. "For Ann-chan and for Yuto."
"That's the way..." Yuto said.
Suddenly, the two of them heard a grumble.
They looked at each other.
"Ah, and I haven't eaten." Inoo said, finishing his list.
Yuto laughed and then took out a biscuit from his school bag.
He gave it to Inoo.
"Arigatou, Yuto." Inoo said.
"Was I able to cheer you up?" Yuto asked.
Inoo smiled and nodded. "A bit."
Yuto pouted at that but quickly grin again.
"I know!" He said.
Yuto, being much taller than Inoo now, completely wrapped his arms around the older guy, giving him a big hug.
Inoo laughed. He was the one who used to give Yuto hugs whenever he was sad during their Junior days.
"Have you cheered up?" Yuto asked, still hugging Inoo.
"Hai." Inoo said, chuckling a bit. He also heard a bit of the eleven years old Yuto there.
"Arigatou." Inoo repeated as Yuto moved back.
Yuto shook his head with a smile and a shrug.
'What are friends for.'
