Exhausted, Ryosuke had trudged up to his room, yearning for his bed. It was 7am. The filming of the Hey! Say! JUMP's latest PV had taken all night.
Not bothering to change, Ryosuke just took off his shirt and climbed up his bed. He lied down and closed his eyes.
It felt as it had only been seconds after that that he felt a weight on his bed. Blearily, he opened his eyes. All his exhaustion seemed to vanished when he saw her. Mirai.
"Good afternoon." She said, teasingly.
"Afternoon." He just say, smiling at Mirai. He let out a yawn and tried to blink sleep away. "I thought you had work today? It is still today, right?"
Mirai laughed and nodded. "I just got back. I asked Chie-san to drop me off here. Your Neechan let me in." She said.
"Hmm." Ryosuke said, nodding. He was still sleepy.
Mirai had then climbed into the bed as well and lied beside Ryosuke.
"I wanted to see you." She said softly.
Ryosuke touched her cheeks and said. "I missed you, too."
Ryosuke had then pulled her more closer to him and wrapped his arms around her. Mirai sighed contently.
"You seem tired." Ryosuke commented.
"Just got back from work." She repeated.
"Right." Ryosuke said. "Then rest for a while."
Mirai only nodded and cuddled up to Ryosuke more.
Ryosuke smiled in ease before he closed his eyes once more.
The two of them woke up to Misaki's call. It was already dinner. They ate, both still looking exhausted, and after that they went to the living room with the whole family, just hanging out.
Mirai ended up spending the night over at the Yamada's, with Ryosuke's mom's insistent. It was true that it was too late to go back. Ryosuke's mom called her mom for her. Mirai had spend the night in this house before. Usually, she would sleep in Misaki's room. For this night however, Ryosuke was surprised that she had went to his room instead. Well, it wasn't like they would be doing anything, as Chihiro-neechan said in the passing, they were both too tired for anything like that and really, they wouldn't either way.
Ryosuke really just miss Mirai and come the next day, both of them have work once more.
---
Ryosuke waved when he saw Mirai glance in his general direction. She saw him, thank goodness, and wave in return. She gestured for him to wait and he nodded pointing at the direction of the lobby. She gave a swift nod and watched as he go.
He was currently in Ken-On HQ. He only had work in the morning and Mirai had wanted to meet.
He waited for Mirai in the lobby. He had been here a lot of times now, of course, always in disguise. But it wasn't like it was a secret. Chie-san and all of Mirai's close co-workers (which is a big population) knows about them.
Just about five minutes after, Mirai came in her disguise, all ready to leave.
"Hey." She said.
Ryosuke smiled. "Hey."
"Let's go?" He asked.
"Un." Mirai said, taking his hand in hers.
"I'm sorry about the abrupt call." Mirai said when they were already in the street. "I don't know... I guess I get lonely. We haven't seen each other very much since last month." She said.
Smiling mischievously, Ryosuke had pulled Mirai into a hug and whispered. "I love you."
Mirai giggled and nodded. Ryosuke was just sweet like that.
"I love you, too." She said and gave Ryosuke a kiss on the cheek.
Ryosuke grinned and laced his fingers with hers. "So where are we going?" He asked.
Mirai shrugged. "Haven't really thought much about it. I just wanted to eat out with you." She said.
Ryosuke nodded. "Okay. Let's go to that restaurant by Minamigaoka."
They walked quietly for a while and then Mirai asked, nonchalantly. "Any plans for valentines? It's the day before you live for your tour, right?"
"Work." Ryosuke said, frowning a bit.
Mirai laughed. Ryosuke looked at her. She shrugged.
"I thought so." She said. "It makes you wonder how all those rumors came about."
"Yeah, that's true." Ryosuke said, laughing. "Those rumors, those with Nishiuchi and Maeda they said they spotted me with them during valentines. Kinda impossible since almost all of us have work during valentines." Ryosuke said in ponder.
He smiled and then looked back at Mirai. "Why do you asked?"
She shrugged once more. "I just thought we never had spend valentines together and since I don't have work on that day this year..."
"Yeah..." Ryosuke said, frowning.
Mirai laughed. "Don't pout. That's just the way things are for us."
---
Ryosuke couldn't help but smile smugly at the look on Mirai's face. Really, he wants to freeze the image in his mind: Mirai in her pajamas, with bedhair, and looking very taken.
"What are you doing here? Did something happened?" She asked.
"Can we go out?" Ryosuke asked.
"Now? At 12 o'clock midnight?" She asked, bewildered.
He laughed. "Yes. It's already valentines." He said, implying.
Mirai stopped and then smiled after a while. "But Ryosuke, you have work later, you'd be exhausted."
"Doesn't matter. Besides, I can just sleep the whole plane ride tomorrow." He said. "I wanted to spend valentines with you, as well." He said.
Mirai beamed at him. Just then, Mirai's parents had also went out. Ryosuke had looked at them apologetically but both just smiled in question.
"Mom, can we go out?" Mirai asked them instantly.
"Now?" Her mom asked.
"Yeah, since it's valentines..." Mirai said, trailing off.
Ryosuke didn't know why, and he wasn't really sure if what he saw was right, but it looked as if Mirai's mom wanted to cry. He didn't understand this, but he didn't ponder much as Mirai's dad said.
"Yes. Of course. But be careful, you two."
"We will, sir." Ryosuke said, looking at them gratefully.
Mirai beamed at her parents and hugged them. She let Ryosuke in and asked him to wait a while as she change clothes.
After a short while, Mirai had returned with a sleepy Miyuu. It seems Miyuu wanted to see her off. Ryosuke had to smile at that. They were really close.
Mirai had smiled at her sister in a silent goodbye and then turned to Ryosuke.
"Ittekimasu." Mirai had called out and the two of them went on with their date.
"So, what are your plans for today?" Mirai asked when they were already outside.
"It's not very original, but I'll hope you'll like it. I was thinking of going to the Central Park." Ryosuke said, sheepishly.
Mirai laughed and pinched Ryosuke's cheeks. "Thanks for this." She said fondly.
They walked further, the park was only some blocks away.
Mirai couldn't help but gasp when they had arrived at the park. It seems Ryosuke had prepared everything. There was a blanket set up with a picnic basket and even candlelight.
Mirai couldn't help but laugh as well. "Picnic under the stars. Totally unoriginal." She teased him.
"Is it a plus if I tell you I prepared tuna, tomatoes and coffee?" He asked playfully.
"I love you!" Mirai said, giggling. Ryosuke joined her in laughing.
Ryosuke then took her hand and lead her to their picnic.
He bowed a bit as he gestured for Mirai to sit, imitating a gentleman. Mirai laughed and played along holding Ryosuke's hand as she sat. When she had already sat though, she pulled Ryosuke down as well. This made Ryosuke loose his balance and he toppled over Mirai. Both of them laughed at themselves.
Mirai gazed at Ryosuke as they lie down. She looked so very happy right then that Ryosuke couldn't help but lean in closer and claim her lips.
After a while he pulled back and said, "Happy Valentine's Day."
Mirai peck him on the lips and said, "Happy Valentines's."
They sat up and Ryosuke started arranging their food.
They stayed at the park for a long time, stargazing, chatting, eating, even dancing at one point, and of course, kissing.
They were still in the park as the dawn break and the sky lighten. Mirai was lying down their blanket, using Ryosuke's lap as her pillow while Ryosuke played with her hair.
Mirai had chuckled then as they watch the first rays of the sun.
"What's funny?" Ryosuke asked, smiling as well.
"You know what this reminds me of?" Mirai asked.
"What?"
"Hunger Games." She suddenly said.
"Eh? That book you read?" He asked, curious.
"Yeah. There was a scene like this in the book. But they watched the sunset rather than the sunrise. That was one of my favorite scenes." She explained.
"Hmm." Ryosuke uttered, nodding.
"One of my favorite characters said something very sweet then. 'I want to spend the rest of my life with you.' Well, it was actually quite morbid since they believe the rest of their lives were just days." she said in ponder.
Ryosuke chuckled.
"What?" Mirai said, a bit indignant.
"Nothing. Nevermind."
Mirai pouted playfully but then said, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
Ryosuke laughed. "What was that?
Mirai laughed as well. "Well, that was the only thing lacking from the scene." She explained between giggles.
"Are you proposing to me?" Ryosuke asked, still laughing.
"Did I sound like I'm proposing?"
"Yes you did." Ryosuke said. "But I wont say 'yes.'" He said, now a bit serious.
"Why?" Mirai asked, looking up at him.
"'Cause you're supposed to be the one saying 'yes'." He said with a shrug.
Mirai smiled at him and took hold of his hand who was combing through her hair.
For a while, they were silent. In another while, Mirai had fallen asleep.
It was already 6 o'clock then, so Ryosuke had just carried Mirai back to their home. She has always been light, but Ryosuke noted she was lighter now than before. She did seemed thinner.
When they reached Mirai's house, they were welcomed by Mirai's dad. It seems he had waited for them to come back.
Ryosuke had passed Mirai to her dad and for a moment, Mirai looked like a little girl in her dad's arms.
"I'm sorry we took so long." He told Shida-san.
"It's okay." He said. "It seems Mirai enjoyed herself very much."
Ryosuke smiled and nodded.
There was a pause, and then Shida-san spoke again. "She loves you very much."
"Yes, I know, sir." Ryosuke said seriously.
"And you love her just as well." Shida-san continued to say.
Ryosuke nodded firmly.
"Thank you." Shida-san said then and he had walked back to their house.
Ryosuke was about to go but then someone spoke once more.
"Never leave my sister, okay?" It was Miyuu.
Ryosuke looked back and nodded.
"I promise I wont." He said with a smile.
Miyuu smiled back.
-
Mirai had told him she might not be able to meet him before he left Japan, but he was still waiting. He really wanted to see her before he go because it would be a long time before they return.
He was still at home, waiting for Mirai's call if ever they could meet somewhere close.
Ryosuke smiled excitedly when his phone rang. Surely it was Mirai calling him.
He answered it instantly.
"Mirai."
"Ryosuke, I'm really sorry but I really can't come." She said at once, her tone apologetic.
"Oh." Ryosuke said, disappointed.
"Sorry." Mirai repeated.
"No, it's okay. You're busy." Ryosuke said, reassuring her.
"Where are you now?" She asked.
"Still at home. I'll be leaving soon. Our flight is in about over an hour." He said.
"I'm sorry I can't see you off." She apologize once more.
"Stop apologizing, it's fine. It's not like we can help it." Ryosuke said, smiling sadly.
"Well, you take care of yourself, okay? Don't overexhaust yourself." She said.
"I won't." Ryosuke said.
There was a pause and then Mirai said softly, "I love you so much. Always remember that."
"I love you, too." Ryosuke said.
"Well, I guess I'll hang up now..." Mirai said after another pause.
"Un. Ittekimasu."
"Itterashai."
Ryosuke sighed as he placed his phone back in his pocket. Sometimes he wished they could just be a normal couple. He let out another sigh as he took his bag.
"I guess I need to go now."
He had arrived in the airport fifteen minutes after. The other members were already there as well the Juniors. Truthfully, they were supposed to come an hour ago, but Ryosuke didn't really care for much scolding if he could see Mirai.
After his 'talk' with Julie-san, he had went and sat besides Yuto, who was talking animatedly with Kyomoto.
He didn't listen though, he could now feel his exhaustion from the day before. He hadn't had enough sleep, either.
He hadn't noticed that he had fallen asleep.
He was woken up by Inoo, saying they had to aboard the plane now.
He nodded sleepily and stood up. Yuto had caught him when he swayed. He was feeling a bit dizzy.
"Woah, you okay?" Yuto said.
"Just sleepy." Ryosuke said gratefully.
"By the way, Yama-chan, your phone was vibrating earlier." He said this time.
Ryosuke blinked, still feeling a bit out, then took his phone out.
He felt more awake when he saw the notifications in his phone. Eight missed calls from Miyuu.
Feeling a bit anxious, Ryosuke had called Mirai's sister.
It took one ring before she answered.
"Niichan! Where are you? You promised you won't leave her! She needs you right now!"
"Miyuu? What happened? Is Mirai okay?"
"Y-you didn't know? She didn't tell you? She-- We're in the hospital. Ne-neechan... she's in the operating room now..."
"W-what? Why? She's--"
Ryosuke could feel his world crashing. It felt so surreal. What was happening? His Mirai, his perfectly healthy and cheerful Mirai.
"We're in Todai Hospital..." Miyuu said softly. "Please... please come."
And now everything adds up. Why Mirai seems thinner, why Mirai's mom looked like she wanted to cry that night, why Mirai's dad thanked him, why Miyuu made him promise...
"I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
"I will. I'll come now. Miyuu, just..." He trailed off, not knowing what else to say.
He felt numb. He needed to go now.
"Where are you going? We need to go now." A distinctly familiar voice said.
"I need to go to Mirai!" He lashed out, his feelings mixed up.
Suddenly he felt someone hugging him.
'Ryosuke.'
-
Ryosuke woke up with a start. He opened his eyes, and gasped.
"Ryosuke, I'm here." He heard her voice. Mirai's.
Finally, he registered his surroundings, he was in a room. He could feel a hand--Mirai's-- in his. She ws besides him, half-hugging him. Unconsciouly, he held her tight.
'It's over. She survived the operation. She's not going anywhere. They'll be together forever. They vowed in front of the altar that they will. She's not going anywhere.' He chanted in his mind.
"Are you okay? You were thrashing around." Mirai said, worriedly.
"I... Sorry... Just a nightmare." Ryosuke managed to say.
Mirai was quiet for a while. Ryosuke was too preoccupied to notice her guilty expression.
"It's Valentine's Day tomorrow..." She said.
"Yeah..." Ryosuke said.
"Sorry." Mirai said, hugging Ryosuke tighter.
"It's not you're fault." Ryosuke said softly.
"You've been having this nightmare since then." Mirai said, sounding as if she wanted to cry.
Ryosuke shook his head. "What's important is you're here with me and you're not going anywhere." He said.
"I won't go anywhere. I promise." Mirai whisphered.
