so there was this article in the anthropology community on here about female autism. and i know almost nothing about autism so i figured i'd read it cause it sounded mildly interesting. and it said frequently girls aren't diagnosed because it manifests itself differently in girls from boys and doctors tend to look for the male signs. and then it ( Read more... )

testing yourself for mental illness drives you "nuts" or creates mental illness. :)

heh. that's sooo common - the self-diagnosing, not the autism :p The more you know about something, the more certain you are that you've got it. in my teaching class, when we learned about learning disabilities and how to recognize it in our students, i realized that i have most of the symptoms for ADD/ADHD. It was funny tho, because when I mentioned it to my parents, they were like, "oh believe me, we were worried about that a lot when you were a kid, but we had you tested, and you aren't" :p and then half the people in the class were like "wow, i think i have add too!"
um, i swear this story was relevant when i started... ah, right, autism. well, i doubt you have it, but if you do, you seem to be doing just fine with it, so why worry :D
