A Declaration of love

May 12, 2009 14:13

Ok so all over the fandom I've seen people complaining about the relationship of the boys... how season one was all love and this one blah blah blah and to be honest I'm tired of it. I think sometimes we have the need to believe we are right all the time that we forget to see things from all angles, so this is my Sam and Dean s4 Love Declaration.

Family is all we have )

I totally agree. Every relationship has to evolve as the people in the relationship evolve and that's what's kept this show so riveting. I totally agree with what you said about Dean saying "those" words -- they do mean more to both of them than just what he said. It was Dean's last ditch effort to get his brother to choose him over everything else. You could tell how tortured Dean was when he said those words. And poor Sam has been so twisted and manipulated by Ruby and his addiction that he just doesn't really see what he is doing anymore. I firmly believe that the boys CAN and WILL get past this... their love is that strong - and I too mean it in a brotherly way (though for Dean I think it is also like a father and for Sam like a son -- hence all their issues about who is in charge and who is a grown up).
Great post! I think it is soooo very important for us all to show solidarity as fans too. At heart we all love both boys -- I know we do.
Thanks for this!

I agree with you. Every relationship evolves and the boys surely did! it would be irealistic if we had the same Sam and Dean of season one after all this time and everything they've gone through.

That scene really got to me... cause as you said it was easy to tell it was painful for Dean to actually say those words to Sam and to feel left by his brother... and Sam, even though he tried to hide it, was devastated too.

I, too, believe that the boys will be victorious after all and that this bump in their lives will just make their relationship stronger =)

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it =)

You are completely RIGHT here. I agree with you, and I know Kripke will eventually mend the brothers' relationship until it is stronger than ever. But we fight harder with people we love than with those we don't give a damn about! Sam and Dean love each other dearly, and between the demons and the angels, they really have been forced onto different sides of what's going on.

However, they still love each other underneath it all, desperately!

Love will conquer all! Hey, if it stayed two brothers hunting MOTW for four years, *I* wouldn't have stayed interested! You have to have drama, conflict, change!

Love, Robin

I completely agree with you... people change with time. It would just have been surrealistic if the boys would have remained the same after all these years and after all the things they had gone through. I think the show has been taking a good direction since season 1.

I totally agree with you on the fact that we fight harder with people we love, and is exactly for that reason, because we care about them ♥

Can't wait for the season finale =D

I totally agree! the boys love each other too much... even to the point of sacrificing themselves for the other. The thing, IMO, is that as they sacrifice themselves to save the other they are also hurting him... because of the suffering he's willing to overcome... For example Dean saved Sam by making a deal, but that also hurt Sam because of the pain he was causing Dean. Their love is so strong they always put the other in front of themselves ♥ I hope things get better between them in the finale =)

I totally agree with you... seems these people are so concentrated on looking at the "bad" or "too sad" parts that they can't actually see the feelings and messages behind each scene! this season, imo, has been good to tell us who is a real fan and who isn't. At first sight it is so hard to just say "This sucks I want the brothers to be together again blah blah blah" when the truth is they had never loved each other more! now more than ever their love has crossed any boundaries (dead, pain, etc.) and they know they are willing to do anything to save the other and that is something beautiful and probably what makes me LOVE this season so much ( ... )

Going back to S1 would serve no purpose, except for maybe the show gaining the theme song of "C'mon Get Happy."

Every event in the season is aimed toward the finale, and the finale sets us up for next season. Moving the plot onward is the whole point of a weekly series. Recycling the old would make the show lose its allure in a hurry.

Happy finale day! No spoilers, plz, I'm gonna upload it soon from Amazon Unbox. Actually, I have the last 3 shows to DL and watch! What can I say, I like delayed gratification.

I can't watch it on TV 'cause local WB station is only on cable and downloading is cheap compared to the prices satellite TV asks.

I think what people don't realize is that this season isn't about choosing which brother to side with, but more of actually being on the brother's side. If you look at it, Sam and Dean both want the same things: Stop the apocalypse without sacrificing each other. Sam doesn't think Dean can do it, not only because he's weak but rather because he's struggling to find his footing. Dean doesn't want Sam to get involved because it means Sam possibly sacrificing himself for the greater good. But both brothers want to reach the same goal, and keep each other alive and safe. Unfortunately, like Bobby said - too much love can actually be the harm. I never saw the brothers taking sides, more like the brothers were doing things according to what they feel is the right way. What they need to do is come to a middle ground, because Dean has a good idea of how to stop the apocalypse and Sam has a good idea of how to stop the apocalypse, so if they just meet in the middle ground things would have gone a little more smooth in 'WTLB ( ... )

ITA!! People believe this is all about choosing between Sam and Dean... when it's really about supporting the love between the brothers. I think they have both taken different paths... not cause they hate each other but because they have different ideas on how to stop the apocalypse and protect the other. At the end they just want the other to be ok =)

You know I never considered it... but actually it is kind of a cycle and probably season 5 will resemble season 1 on how the boys are now kind of distant from each other. Although this time will be different, not as much as knowing each other (Cause they already do) but about reconnecting, about talking more and about forgiving each other for all the things they've been through.

Exactly their reconnecting will be more about them coming to the conclusion that talking is a good thing, no matter how chic flicky it might seem ;D and definitely forgiving each other and just moving on from there. I really hope that's how the season ends, or at least that's where season 5 heads =) I don't think any of us will be able to stand our boys not reuniting ...
