A thing which is stupid is that native speakers of a language can and do take the scholarship exams for that language. Like, someone german can take the german scholarship and so on. Since scholarship works by percentages, that basically means the german getting it will stop a kiwi getting it. Which is really not fair, as they are so much more likely to get it than a kiwi.
Why they would even sit is a mystery. They don't get the money, they just displace those who would have.
And yes, this really is all just a whinge about how I probably won't get given money for being good at german. It's not FAIR. I'm good at german, but then there's the germans sitting the exam, and people who are better than me, so it'll be nigh impossible to get schol in this subject, for which I've never earned a single credit that wasn't excellence. But I'm still not good enough. Of the fifteen people in our class, the numbers say less than one should get the award. I am finally about equal with liese, who was best in the class last year. but then there is Bronwyn, who is year twelve, taught herself the Year 12 syllabus over the summer holidays, and is now correcting the teachers, and apparently an exchange student is starting as well, and she'll be doing scholarship. So I have no hope.
Sorry to complain to you.
