Don't keep lilies in your house. If you care about your fuzzy friends don't keep any kind of lilly within eyeshot of them - they are very, very toxic. If knew this little tidbit Sarah Kitty wouldn't be hooked up to an IV at the animal hospital. She's had a couple of horrible days being force fed charcoal and pushing fluids and being sick ( Read more... )

Oh gosh, your poor cat. Good thing you were there to catch it in time. Why don't animals know what's good and not good for them? Same reason people, don't I guess.

I know - when I was young I was told that animals could sense when something was poisonous. I now know this is a myth as Sarah will try to sample anything/ everything leafy.

Good lord! I had no idea. Poor Sarah kitty. I am glad to hear she sounds like she's on the upswing.

Even the vet's assistants didn't realize lilies are toxic.

Sarah is home now and back to terrorizing my socks.

She's back and normal except for a shaved leg. Andy now refers to her as "poodle foot".

thanks very much. She's home now and healthy and I've learned not to keep anything in the house without researching it's cat friendliness first.

Oh dear gods, I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope she's OK by now? When Spoon first moved in I read a lot about cat stuff and found out that there are loads of things toxic to cats: tobacco, chocolate, lilies, onion....the list goes on. I'd be interested to know exactly what lily you had so I can make sure it's not part of some extended family thing I'm unaware of.

Hugs to Sarah x

Thanks you - and Sarah thanks you for the hugs.
It was a tiger lily that she tried eating. Mind that Spoon doesn't even brush up against a lily - apparently cleaning the pollen off themselves can be deadly.

FYI another thing I remembered is Aloe Vera, and my house is smothered in them (all in places he shouldn't be able to get to).

So, so glad she's all better :)
