When he got home the apartment was pitch dark. He opened the door as quietly as he could and set his bag down on the ground. There were enough lights outside to guide him through the dark room.
Peter took off his shoes and pulled off his paramedic uniform. By the time he reached the bedroom he was down to his boxers and a shirt. As he pulled back the covers he tried not to shift too much and wake the woman already curled up.
He wasn’t disappointed that Rigby didn’t wait up for him. The glowing clock told him it was a little past two in the morning. So even though she was asleep, she was there. That was all Peter needed.
He managed to slide into bed without disturbing her. She shifted into his warmth and Peter smiled, putting an arm around her.
“I love you,” he whispered in her ear. Rigby’s lips pulled into a smile and she let out a sigh as she nuzzled a bit closer. Coming home to her made everything worthwhile.
