Fandom Roundup

Well, last night was fun. Caught up on some retro gaming with a few friends of mine (we are all poor and haven't made the HD leap yet). In the wake of it, I figured I'd ramble a bit about some fandoms I've been thinking about lately. Kind of a fluff post, perhaps, but better than nothing, eh?

- Chrono Trigger: Cannot wait for CTDS. Seriously. I don't even care what they do or don't add to it (though hearing there's at least a bonus dungeon was nice). I'm still too stoked that they're revisiting the franchise at all. Day one purchase for me, for sure.

- Final Fantasy: Tired of waiting for FF13. Seriously. Still looking forward to FF4DS, though, which I still haven't played yet. I was holding off until I'd finished FFTA2 - but, now that I have, I can't afford the damn thing. Grah. (On the bright side, at least I don't have to complain about not being able to afford FF13!)

- Dragon Warrior: Lost interest in DW3GBC, when I got the ship and couldn't be arsed to figure out what to do with it. Almost spent money I didn't have on DW4DS...but, just in time, found out they couldn't be arsed to translate the goddamn Chat feature. Sigh. I suppose it was the right move businesswise, but it still really stings...especially since they approved almost the exact same feature for FF4DS. Oh, the woes of the American Draque fan...

- The World Ends With You: Sloooowly gathering ye olde Secret Reports. Pretty much the only thing my DS is getting used for, these days. Still deciding whether or not to get into the fandom part of this fandom; from what I've seen at subarashiki_ds and thewewyfanfic, it's a little...ah...Joshua-centric for my tastes. (I am not a fan of Joshua, to put it exceedingly politely.)

- Death Note: Beginning to lose interest in this. Just hit the ep where L enrolls at Light's school, which seems stupid on a number of levels. Also disappointed at Light's sudden descent from regular everyday villainy to cartoonish supervillainy. Still not giving up on it, though~

- Webcomics: Been looking into some old webcomic bookmarks too. Order of the Stick started out as a brilliant D&D sendup, but now has a serious (and pretty good!) plot to go with it. Last Days of FOXHOUND is the same way, but with Metal Gear Solid, and the added bonus that it's actually 100% finished. (Not that I'm up to date on either of them, heh.) Gunnerkrigg Court, meanwhile, is just plain good in its own right...though I admit I may be biased toward it right now, owing to my sudden obsession with...

- Harry Potter: I'm as shocked as you are. I never thought I'd get into the HP fandom, until TVTropes linked me to this gem by Arabella: a recreation of Ginny's diary from Chamber of Secrets. This was probably the only thing that could ease me into the fandom; not only was it incredible, but my usual complaint with book fics - that the difference between the book's narrative style and the fic's is too jarring - was obviously not a concern here. Since then I've been working through Arabella's other diaries, and cautiously looking into other Potterfic; got any recommendations? (Or fic you've written, perhaps?)
