Huh, I guess I didn't realize Portland itself is that bad off. Maybe I need to move too, heh.

Portland has one of the highest unemployment rates in the US. On top of that the way that Portland taxes business so heavily it actually drives a lot of businesses out of the area.

Yeah I have heard that portland (oregon in general) has a relatively high unemployment rate compared to other places, but I've been feeling the same way about connecting with people too. Its partially my own fault, but it just seems hard to integrate into new social circles. I figure that's similar anywhere through.

have you applied at Comcast? With your skill level and their new enterprises (phone and cell phone technology) you might have an opening. Have you applied for Verizon locally? I moved up here knowing no one but family and remembered why I had left in the first place :) I love Oregon but working graveyard shift and several personal issues making friends and getting out was not available, now I have no wish to. I have a new job I commute 2 hours a day to, rt, but can not move because of a lease, so yeah I feel your pain. Good luck and I am sure you will land on your feet.

I've had very little social interaction down here outside of dating.

Socializing outside of dating is hard, most people you try to socialize with think you want to date them.
