Mascunormativity & The Treatment of Femme/Femme Relationships

So, awhile back I started seeing my girlfriend, and being with her is making me realize the shitty insidiously misogynist way that femme/femme couples get treated by society.

People expect their binary relationships, and for them to conform to their idea of "normal." When you don't, it says their binary is wrong. But that can't be, so they resort to being asshats.

Live your life.

I agree with you to an extent, but the thing is even if they're treated as deviant, butch/butch couples get treated as couples, as whole in and of themselves and not looking for outside parties to "Finish" the arrangement.

I have noticed that femme/femme pairs almost get treated like non-couples a lot of the time (even though I have never been part of one / am not femme).
"There always seems to be a need for a masculine partner, people seem to think femme/femme relationships are like unbonded oxygen atoms always looking for someone to fill in the phallic blank, which I think really says something about the way our society views femininity," I felt that was a clever way to put it.
