So my comment in response to the one who picked on me (see yesterday's post) was: I never said any of it was right. And isn't that exactly the point
( Read more... )
XD Sorry. I'm just catching up on your posts since I haven't really been checking LJ that much lately, but I'm sorry to say that most of the internet is apparently just like that and not just about manga, but like everything
( ... )
That being said, the internet is *great* for sampling and helping people to decide if they love something.
Yup. That's it exactly. To decide if they love something. But it's what they do with that "love" afterwards that really counts though, so I hope more people will realize that too.
I hope people do realize that and I hope that in the future that there are better ways to monetize getting people to feel that "love" to prevent mooching.
Just the same though, there are a few series I'm really happy I didn't pay anything to watch because they were terrible and I was optimistic that it would get better, but it didn't. For instance, the 6 episode series of Saint Beast, which was an OVA I think before the TV series Tatsuhisa was on. That was terrible and I want those 3 hours of my life back. I didn't spend any money on it though, so I can't complain too much, but the fact that I was able to sample those 6 episodes to find out it was terrible and that I would probably horribly hate the TV series was enough to me to find that kind of circumstance a good use of downloading on the internet cuz I would have wanted a full refund if I had to pay money for that awful.
No need to shut up actually, maybe most people won't take it seriously or some may even argue with you, but there may be a few that will think of it and for it it's worth.
I've been posting quite a few that some people never buy anything no matter what. I know people who have manga shops in their city, all titles in their own language (not English), and they still go and download everything. When I asked them why they didn't buy at least those they really really liked the answers was "we like free stuff". And this goes for manga, movies, games, etc. Really sick.
For manga (luckily I don't watch movies), I like to check things, since I used to buy too many books that were 'trash' apart from the nice covers, but if I like them I buy them whenever possible. And I don't think I do this out of guilt, it's just a common sense (or am I the only one?) that we should buy what we want to use/have.
My only wish is that there were more titles, especially novels, available and I'd gladly give publishers even more money.

That's precisely my point. Ideally it shouldn't be out of guilt. We love it so we buy it, obviously. But like you said, it's a sad reality that not everyone feels that way. There are others who just don't bother.
I wonder what what it would be like if movie/manga/music etc makers also just don't bother to make any more XDD
No new books/manga/music/games/animes...that's not nice imagination.
Now there is a poll at MU: "If paper manga were 40-50% cheaper, would you be more likely to buy it?" And still 11.3% voted 'I would only read scanlations'.
