Had my first cold of the season...missed three days of school, and still have the cough to show for it. Rather the cough than the stuffed up nose, 'cause that's just gross. Just sucks that I had to cancel a date with Takeshi over the weekend. but I couldn't make it down the stairs without getting short of breath, let alone anything else ( Read more... )

sick, family, takeshi, holidays

Don't worry about the weekend. I'm just happy you're feeling better now. Mom got a little worried cause I was willingly sitting down to do schoolwork even when you weren't there.

Have I ever turned down free food, Ryoma~? Of course I'll be there.

Heh...I'd be worried too, if I were her. Sure you're not running a fever or something?

No, you haven't, but then, don't think you've ever seen 'Kaasan obsess over a turkey, either.

Well... I figure if I got it done while you weren't there, then we could do something fun for both of us when we did get to hang out.

... Can't say I have.

Tell your mother to try looking in Yokohama instead of Tokyo for a turkey. You can find some in the more international-based food markets around here. And I only know that because I've come across my share of Americans and Canadians in this city who have fretted over preparations for their holiday.
...Though a forewarning for you, they're going to be pricey. Because, yeah, they're imported. As I'm sure you already know, turkey is about as common here as things like eel or sea urchin is in North America and a lot of other Western countries. In other words, not at all, unless you go looking for it in a specialty restaurant or grocery store.

...Turkey? That's a bird, right? What's it taste like? ...Wait. Wasn't Thanksgivin' today? Why ya celebratin' it late? And dunno what it has ta do with Thanksgivin', but I think I heard that cranberries grow up north in Hokkaido, but don't think too many folks outside them eat 'em at all. I know I ain't ever eaten 'em before. Can't 'member if I've even seen 'em in any stores before.

[OOC: Forgot to mention, Japan has their own version of Thanksgiving, called Labor Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 23rd, oddly enough. Though it's not quite the same thing as the American version. It mostly celebrates the hard work that people do during the year, especially farmers, so it's a harvest holiday. There's usually festivals going on all over the country during it.]

Yeah, it's a bird. And it...tastes like...I dunno. Turkey. Come and find out. And different Thanksgiving. American Thanksgiving. 'Kaasan's suddenly decided she misses the holiday and wants to celebrate it.

(ooc: Never knew the holiday existed...huh. Learn something new~ And I sent that tag, btw...let me know if you get it~)

Ehhh~ Ya could give me some idea of what to expect, ya know. Is turkey and cranberries the only things ya eat for American Thanksgivin'? What else do ya do for it 'sides eatin'? ...Wait. Am I supposed ta bring somethin' with me for this? I suck at cookin', though...

[OOC: I got the Chinen/Rin tag, but not one for Kin-chan and Ryoma. Did you get the tag I sent for that one at all?]

I could, but I don't know how to explain it, really. It just...tastes like turkey. I mean, it's poultry, like chicken...so...maybe like that, sorta? And no, that's not the only thing. Potatoes and stuffing and various vegetables. And pie. And nah. Don't have to bring anything. Just yourself.

(ooc: Nope...never got the Kin/Ryoma tag at all...your email really does hate you, doesn't it?)
