Nothing against the Prez taking his family on a field trip, but if you enjoy getting stuck in a 90-minute traffic jam because some guy from the Rust Belt spotted a goddamn buffalo out in that thar meadow and thought parking right in the middle of the road to gawk ( Read more... )

I imagine they were shaking down the grizzly bears for their photo IDs and warning the elk to keep those ten-point racks fifty yards away from the security cordons

........that mental picture just made me laugh. Worse because I can see it happening.

Going into some sort of homeland-security-protection-luggage scanning-passenger wanding job these days seems nearly recession-proof, doesn't it? :D

LOL - I live in Orem.
Utah valley has some good hot spots, but not near the temples.

Glad you had a good vacation. Your description of yellowstone had me laughing!

Orem, hey? We pulled off the road and hit a Wal-Mart in Orem for ice and necessaries. :) Especially after two days on Highway 50, that whole area struck me as verdant and pretty, not to mention the spectacular mountains -- we stayed in a campground at Timpanagos Cave, where I've never been before, hiked up for the tour and then had a scenic drive east through the Wasatch with a stop at Cascade Springs. My first look at that part of Utah. I once crossed through Salt Lake, but I think I was about ten years old at the time...

I think I am just barely over the effects of the trip by now -- two and a half weeks is the longest I've been away from home in an age. :P

Dear Madame Manga,

When will the next chapter of Abstinence Education be posted?

I'd better not promise anything madame_manga August 27 2009, 01:24:52 UTC
I don't know at this point how soon I'll be able to post. I've been working on that next chapter (after the one I ditched) but at the moment it's hard to type with only half a right thumbnail remaining. :P

I recently read that Tolstoy got to a point while writing Anna Karenina (which was serialized over a period of years) where he wished someone else could finish it for him. :) I don't know -- I haven't divorced this project, but I've certainly been having a fling with another one who swept me off my feet! Abstinence Education has been five years in the writing now, and I guess I needed a break pretty badly...

No offense, but the jury is still out on you. All you have to do is to be punctual in uploading 'Mugen no Juunin', and I'll reserve my judgements for now.
