My auction house score

Jul 09, 2010 09:12

As promised! Here's what I got. I'm happy to hear any opinions on the date of the china hutch.

Gorham tea pot. Maker's mark dates it to 1880.

What a haul!! The sliver is I think the best deal. At that price it was practically free!!!

You MUST come down some day and go antiquing with me! I have a 'connection' who frequently gives me fabulous discounts!! Maeve was able to get a Fenton Glass mermaid vase for about 1/2 the average price it was going for on various antique and auction sites on line =)

Wow - what a fantastic bunch of buys!!

I have a hutch a lot like that - I'll have to take a pic of mine - not sure how old mine is either though.

Now I want to go to an auction! ;-)

My blood runs green with envy! Yet you are the best person to own these wonderful items. You will care and treat them the way they need to be. I am really happy you had a great score at the auction house.

Beautiful stuff!

I am no expert but I would guess 1920s-1940s for the china hutch based on the styling

Thanks! Yeah, that's what I thought about the date. I looked at it and thought "Depression Era".

You got a STEAL, woman!!!! That cabinet is amazing, and wow, so much silver!! :D

Would you mind if I showed the pictures to my parents? Dad knows quite a bit about furniture and may be able to narrow down when it's from. :) (Mom will flip over your silver haul - she has a spectacular collection of gorham that she's collected over the years from yard sales and will totally appreciate what a deal you got!)

Also, I have that same Apothecary sign - it hangs in my kitchen, heehee. :D

Thanks!!!

Sure, you can show it to your parents :) I'd love their opinion. And now I'm a fan of Gorham silver and hope to start a collection.

Mom has recently joined the internet world of gchat, so she gave me some quick feedback:
" If I had to make a guess, I would think the cabinet is early 20th century, 1920-30's. I say this because it looks a lot like my mother's old china cabinet and I think she bought all of her furniture before the war. On the silver, I have no idea. The tray doesn't match the style of the pot, and they both look like they might be plate, especially the tray. It looks like some silver has worn off and brass and/or copper is showing."

Mom collects mostly plate stuff, and said that your Gorham pot is AMAZING, and looks like it's in surprisingly good condition. :D
