So, the post below is actually a year old. I guess the last time I was logged into LiveJournal that's the post I was writing and it was still saved....a year later. But now I'm back and I think I'm gonna be here for a bit
( Read more... )
Japan was tons of fun!! My Japanese has gotten a lot better and I think that it was just a great opportunity to spend some time outside of the country and experience a different culture. I'll try and put up some pics on LJ when I get a chance. But if you're on Facebook at all, I can friend you and you can check out my pics there. I can email you my real name or something if you'd like
( ... )
Was that your first time out of the country? I remember the first time I was abroad - I had so much fun though I experienced less of a culture shock since I was in England. Haha, I *am* on FB but I'm probably one of the most paranoid people you'll ever meet. As a law student, you come across some of the craziest creepy cyber stories so I'll only FB friend people I've actually met in person. It's not personal...just, you know, a product of a risk adversive and paranoid personality. :) I appreciate the fact that you are less so - or maybe more trusting of me. *g*
I hear you re: D/G, though I hardly read it anymore anyway. I read something recently that left a sour taste in my mouth so I would love to read some good D/G but I can't bother to go through a bunch of bad fic again. I'm all about Draco and Astoria nowadays.
It wasn't the first time I'd been outside the country, but it was the first time without some sort of 'adult supervision'. Of course, that got me into loads of trouble...but in a good way!
And you're totally right to be paranoid about FB. My problem's that I'm not paranoid enough. It's the whole growing up with the internet thing that screwed me up :)
And what's this about Draco/Astoria fanfic?! Such a thing exists?? I am sorely out of the loop.
Just curious what the serious problems with the D/G community are... and I'll take the opportunity to lobby: the stories I've read of yours in that fandom are great, so I hope you'll end up doing some more!
I think I'll probably pump out a few more one-shots over the summer.
And it seems like you're someone who's been keeping in touch with the D/G community. Do you have any recommendations for some fics that have been posted within the past two years that I should take a look at? I've been craving some good D/G!
The DG community seems to have an excess of drama in it--I don't think it's just you being melodramatic. But I (selfishly) hope you'll consider staying involved in DG fanfiction anyway. There are many ways to be in the DG community--or at least just write DG--w/o getting too sucked in to drama... maybe? I try to walk that fine line, myself (without the writing part, but I'm a librarian at "FICL", the Fire & Ice Classics Library). I'm way too in love with DG to let other people's stuff keep me away from it! So far, at least. *crosses fingers*
Good luck with writing and your new post-college life! I loved your new fic posted at FIA.
I think I'll probably keep writing. I was re-reading some of my favorite fics the other day and it definitely inspired me. We definitely belong to really great ship!
I don't think my latest posts criticizing our community will exactly keep me out of the drama, but I'm going to try to not take things personally.
And many thanks for your work with the FICL. It's definitely the place I go to when I'm in the mood to procrastinate and check out some great fics.
Lemme know if you've got any suggestions for fics (anything new posted within the last two years) that I should check out. I've been away for fandom for way too long ^_^
How about I send you a PM rather than post my personal recent DG recs here, if you don't mind. I'm not usually super paranoid, but on the other hand I don't want to piss off anyone I may inadvertently (or not) leave out. Not that I have a HUGE number of recent DG recs, but I definitely have some opinions! Let me know if you're interested in unfinished/in-progress fics, as that'd greatly increase my list!

Awww, I'm kind of out with the D/G community. Is it having issues (er, again)?

And I'm totally okay with reading in-progress fics. Absolutely anything to pass the summer would be great! :)
