So for my final in my African American Studies class, I have to write a paper. It should be less than 3 pages long, but here's the question. it's got me a bit baffled:

You recently applied for a position as a Research Officer at the Center for Black Culture at WVU. During the interview, a question was asked on how much you know about issues ( Read more... )

I would start with listing what you knew before the class about the issues Black people faced. Right down everything that you remember. Write down what you thought about those issues. I'm thinking issues could include affirmative action, blacks and the law, interracial reltionships, how others view black people, etc, etc.

Like, what you tweeted about Thanksgiving comes to mind as one example.

Then use what you've learned in class to tell how your views about the same issues changed or stayed the same and just say why. Also include issues that you may have learned about in class.

Don't worry about sounding like a racist. Everyone has some type of preconceptions about people. Just write about what you've learned.

I hoped that helped! Good luck!

Thanks D! You really helped me out!

The weirdest part about this paper was that he was asking us to talk about social issues and stereotypes about modern Blacks... when the course was basically a history lesson about Africa, and eventually about the slave trade... but it didnt really go past that. I was like "how is this supposed to relate to the class?! GAHH!!" lol

But I was able to make a list, like you said, and just take it from there. :)

Thanks again!
((((hugs)))))
