Sheng Qi, born in 1965, came to public attention in 1985 as a member of China's "New Art Movement;" he was also involved in the Student's Movement, which ended with the tragic Tiananmen Square Massacre. Disheartened by the Tiananmen Square Massacre, Sheng Qi cut off his little finger and burried it in a flower pot before leaving China for Rome. ( Read more... )

I really had to find that painting after a site had commented on it; the painting is called "Girl Scouts" and, though you can't see it very clearly in the icon, the painting has little girls wielding rifles!

You're quite welcome! I hope his site comes back up too, because the main places to view his artwork over the Internet now is through various art auction sites like artnet. RedGate also features many of his works; however, a lot of these sites have unreliable image quality--some of them might have high image quality; other's might have horrible quality--and documentation. It's difficult for me to get a comprehensive idea of his work's progression because many of the sites only post work that is up for auction.
