So there I was. Sitting in my room, laying on the floor. It was one of those days where you feel like the whole world is out to get you, when a friend of mine called. "Hey You know Costello is playing at the Royce Hall tonight?" Well damn. That was all it took. I got up, threw on some clothes and drove the 11 miles over the hill to the UCLA Campus ( Read more... )

The thing is, it doesn't matter how big a musical giant they are for it to be as meaningful to you as Mr. Costello was to Ace. I felt that was when I got to meet Jake a few years back at Club Laga.Hell, even just last night I met a band local to Flint, the Ghettobillies. They're not huge by any means, but they were one of my boyfriend's favorite bands. He just died after his 21st birthday and I wrote to the band telling them how much their music meant to him and they all wrote back, and were all so happy to meet me at the show. I mean, it was in a bar, but it didn't matter. They're rock stars in my head, it's a great feeling.

It's also very cute and surreal that guys in a band that's doing as well as Madcap is are still humbled and get starry-eyed at times. Makes you seem more real than a lot of bands, guess that's what I like most about you guys.

The exact opposite happened to me. I went to the Mest concert here in Tempe. You guys were there and so was Homegrown and FalloutBoy. Well I went really pumped and excited because it was my first "real" concert and I was positive I was gonna meet the bands but I didn't :(. I didn't get to meet any of you guys and it ruined my ....like week. But the concert was still awesome! :)

I wanted so badly to go see Elvis...I've grown up listening to his stuff and I just love him...Unfortunatly I'm poor and couldn't afford the 30 some bucks to go see his show *sad face*...

I do know what you mean about meeting your influences and how amazing it is....I've met a lot of the big influences of my life (in the music-region) and everytime it's just completely amazing...there's nothing like meeting the person behind the lyrics you sing along to everynight, nothing like meeting the bassist who's song you first learned way back when...it puts you into this different mind-set and it's just...wow.

Thanks for sharing your story Ace! Your guys' entries always make me smile!

I understand how meeting some one of that stature and that importance to a person can mean. I have not met anyoen like that yet, but Madcap's music influences be big time, like the old stuff, songs of being a kid and growing up and dealing with shit and it will be ok, i jusat pop in East To West when i have a shitty day and that cd lifts my spirits completely, punk rock music is all i know and love, and it will be wiht me and in me forever. My band takes heavy influenc of Madcap, also like The Bouncing Souls, The Suicide Machines, Less Than Jake, Rancid, Anti-Flag, stuff liek that, stuff for kdis who are growing up and having shit to deal with, i wanna put out music like those bands where it can give a kid hope that things will be better, and that your not alone in the world, also we're very political, but yea, hey Madcap, if its at all possible, mayeb you guys come play a show with us, give a small town band a kick in the ass and get somewehre with the music they love, later all!!
