Oh, Sarah. What a horrible year you've had. May the next few years be full of friends and kittens and love and cheer, to take the edge off your grief and leave you with the all the good memories.
It's been a bit of a bugger this year, but in many ways I've had it easier than some of my colleagues who've had family members drop dead unexpectedly or pets hit by cars etc. At least I've been sort of expecting things would happen, so there was a measure of mental preparation that I could do. It doesn't hurt any less, but the shock isn't as great. Starless was a wonderful lad, and was very intelligent. Teasle may grow into having some intelligence but he's dumb as a box of (very big and furry) rocks...
Not bad going for a "free-to-a-good-home" kitten who had never even been handled when we first got him at a couple of months old. My mum used to say that it was Starless who looked after me when Dave died, rather than the other way round, and I think she was right. I am now going to have to help Teasle to re-evaluate our relationship, as Starless always called the shots before.
I think we caught it before he was in anything other than slightly bewildered discomfort and tiredness. I desperately didn't want him to be in pain. I think he'll be just great now!
