You know...maybe it's because I am from the Sonoran Desert and spend huge amounts of my downtime in 'REAL' mexico, but in all the time I lived in LA I never foudn what I would consider good mexican food...anywhere from as far north as ventura all the way into ghetto Santa Ana.

I think you should blog your mexican exploits so when I come out to visit I can try to eat some good mexcian!

well i've gone to a few not-so-good places, but i'm sure good ones are out there just from the fact that there are so many mexicans here. i've gotten several reccomdations from people who's judgement i trust, so i just need to make the rounds and see what i think.

go a little further, delve into van nuys. i guess.

but there's good mexican all over the place if you're not afraid of holes in the wall. also, plenty good places that are not holes in the wall but those are rarer.

With as much mexican street food ive eaten in my travelles sounth I certainly dont have a probelm with the hole in the wall places...its jsut that they all seemed to suck too...

When I moved to LA I brought 3 frineds from tucson with me and our first and most important quest was to find mexican food as good as we got back home...in two years we still never found it :-/

1 requirement that we have and is ALWAYS missing (as in we still havnt found it anywhere at all) is Carne Seca...Asada is everywhere but southern AZ and northern Mexico is big on Carne Seca and we never could find it...I ended up settling for some decent carnitas I found in santa ana and corona del mar of all places.

I mentioned a while back that we missed out on LA but your art posts and your food posts have convinced me that Dave and I are going to have to make it a priority to check out your city. ;) I don't know when we're going to get vacation time but I'll definately let you know when a plan is cooking.

Well, I had some difficulties when I first got here like getting a really bad flu that kept me from doing anything but that's been over for a while now and I've been venturing out more. I really like Vancouver! So many good places to eat and to go at night! I'm not really into the art scene here yet because I'm more concerned with getting myself into the design industry first but once that's done with I'll be finding out what's going on. The city is really beautiful and I'm almost a little overwhelmed by the possibilities of it all given that Halifax was so small. But this is good because we moved here for the sake of possibilities.

Driving through California has me convinced that we'll live there one day though. What a beautiful state! Thank you so much for the invitation. You're definately welcome to stay with us if you want to explore the city. :)

i love california. its so diverse. truthfully i cant picture myself living in any other state in the US, well except maybe when i'm older and want to retire or something. then i might move back to oklahoma and buy acreage.
