Alice Pleasance Liddell [Background]
Alice for the first seven years of her life lived the life of a proper Victorian daughter. She had the finest tutors and education as expected of the daughter of a dean of Oxford. Despite having the proper education a lady should have, Alice did not exactly enjoy the tutors and nannies. Even though she did not enjoy the numerous tutors and nannies, she enjoyed outings with her elder sister. Alice always greatly admired that her sister was a proper lady, just like their mother. It was during a normal outing with her sister that she in fact had an adventure that changed her life. While contemplating if she should make a daisy-chain on the side of a bank, she saw a white rabbit with pink eyes wearing a waist-coat run past her and speak while looking at a pocket watch. Alice was always the curious girl and so she followed as fast she could behind the speaking rabbit. After all, it wasn’t everyday one saw a talking coat-wearing rabbit exclaim about his tardiness. So Alice followed as quickly as she could and came to a rabbit hole. Well her curiosity still burned through her and so she went right in after the rabbit.
Down.
Down.
Down.
Alice fell so far for so long in fact she thought she might fall straight to the other side of the world. But of course that was a silly thought. Although, perhaps she would have been better off falling through to Australia or New Zealand. Rather, Alice fell into Wonderland. There was a bit of a kafuffle with a bottle labeled "DRINK ME," and a very small cake with "EAT ME" written across the top so she could get through a tiny door that led to a garden. Unfortunately for Alice grew a mile high and cried so much that a pool formed around her and she eventually ended up having to swim in it.
Whilst swimming in her own tears she came across a mouse and other creatures as she swam (a mouse, a dodo, a duck, an eaglet, and a lory had all fallen into her pool of tears among other curious creatures). They reached the shore and wanted to dry off. They all thought that perhaps a caucus-race would dry everyone off. Except there was no real "track" to be ran on. It resulted in everyone winning and Alice having to reward them with comfits. And as her own prize for the race she was given a quite elegant thimble. The mouse, after the race, told them all why he disliked cats and dogs. It wasn't long after this that Alice upset the many creatures and found herself alone again! However, she wasn't alone for long. She saw the white rabbit once more. And the white rabbit even saw HER. This was quite a pleasant surprise, mind you, since what few times they saw one another up to this point he promptly fled after. A terribly troublesome thing considering it was the rabbit that garnered her interest in the first place! Not only did the rabbit see her, but he mistook her for his housemaid!
What a daft bunny. But Alice went into his home, as ordered and went to find the fan and gloves the white rabbit had been so terribly frantic about! While searching all the while for the items (and imagining herself doing errands for Dinah), she came across a bottle labeled "DRINK ME." Well Alice remembered quite well what had happened the last time and she was curious as to see what interesting thing would happen again! And an interesting thing happened indeed. Up, up, up she grew! She filled the entire house and quite uncomfortably so. The rabbit, quite frantic (he was always frantic mind you, but with a monster arm coming out of his window, it was understandable that he was more frantic than usual) had Bill bring the ladder around so he could climb down the chimney. A bit of a resistance on Alice’s part and a flying lizard later convinced the white rabbit that his house must be burnt down. A simply dreadful thing considering Alice was still stuck within it. Well once more the little cakes she ate earlier (and the cakes had originally been pebbles no less) she shrunk in size and ran outside before she could be burnt along with the house!
After a bit of a scare from a small puppy (and a small dog would be very frightening when one is only 3 inches tall), Alice came across a hookah smoking blue caterpillar. Well like every other curious thing she had encountered thus far, Alice saw no reason not to speak to the caterpillar. Although no one ever told her that a caterpillar was so terse and contradictory (though to be fair, she wasn’t sure of anyone who had spoken to a caterpillar)! Well, despite being told to "keep her temper" she did in fact learn something from him. She discovered one side of the mushroom will make you grow taller, and the other side will make you grow smaller! A very useful thing since she had changed sizes so many times in one day already! After some testing on Alice’s part (and being called a serpent by a very uppity mother pigeon) Alice was finally back to her normal height.
Alice - once restored to her normal size - set about to getting to the beautiful garden she had seen previously. It just so happen that during her quest to find the garden, she found instead a very large mansion. Well it wasn’t so surprising to see a mansion rather it was far more surprising to see a frog as the mansion’s footman that received an invitation to the Duchess from the Queen to play croquet from a fish-footman! Well the frog footman proved to be perfectly useless, as so many things were in the land Alice found herself in. But eventually Alice found herself into the manor, specifically into the manor’s kitchen. In this manor a duchess held her baby and both sneezed horribly because the cook used far too much pepper! Though the Cheshire Cat sitting close by didn’t seem bothered by the pepper at all if his grin was anything to go by. Of course the duchess’s baby was terribly troubled by the pepper and that silverware and china often came close to hitting him. Alice could understand that of course. So she took the baby outside, only to find out the ugly little thing had turned into a very handsome piglet.
It was after this little mishap with the piglet that Cheshire, the same cat from before, found her. She came upon the realization she was terribly mad merely because of her current location (though she had endured such mad things it would make perfect sense). He also informed her - grin in place - of the directions of the March Hare and Mad Hatter, both terribly mad which Alice didn’t like. But she decided she would visit the March Hare, at least mad wasn’t in his name. It was in this discovery of the Hare’s house that she happened upon the maddest tea party she had ever seen! Except she wasn’t at all happy about this tea party! She wasn’t allowed a single drop of tea! Not only that, but she never found out the answer to why a raven was like a writing desk! Well not one to be so thoroughly abused by her host (even if she was an uninvited guest) Alice left, vowing not to return if she could help it.
Well it proved that leaving the tea-party was perhaps the best thing she could have done. For it led her back to the room with the door leading to the garden. Finally, Alice was able to go into the beautiful garden. She had wanted this from the start! Well finally entering the garden, Alice came across three playing cards (the Two, the Five, and the Seven) painting perfectly beautiful white roses red. Well Alice discovered that the Queen practically hated white roses. To such a degree she nearly had the poor little cards beheaded! Of course she also tried to behead Alice but Alice replied promptly to such nonsense she would have none of that. Still very much alive, the queen demanded to know if Alice played croquet.
After one of the oddest games of croquet Alice had ever played, and nearly losing her head yet again, the Cheshire Cat once more came to visit her (as was its fancy to do so). Well Alice was quite done with the croquet game where everyone cheated and she started to walk through the courtyard where she came upon a gryphon and a mock turtle. She learned a lovely dance and song from them both (and that no one ever really got beheaded despite the squabbling). However despite a lovely conversation with the gryphon and mock turtle a trial had begun! Well she rushed to get to the trial (though she didn’t know why she of all people had to go) because the gryphon insisted she do so. It was at this trial that the knave of Hearts was being put on trial for stealing the queen’s tarts. The trial was nothing but nonsense as far as she was concerned because the tarts were in perfectly plain sight for everyone to see! And she told them such. Well no surprise that such a thing would bother them! But Alice informed them that no one cared what they thought since they were nothing but a bunch of cards!
And even as they rose up all around her trying to attack her, she woke up with a slight scream, still trying to beat off the cards in her dreams. But she woke slowly in the warmth of her sister’s lap and promptly told her of the curious adventure she had in her dream!
This would not be the last of Alice’s adventures of course, while her first adventure had happened in the summer, her second occurred in winter. While speaking with Dinah’s kittens she slowly moved up onto the mantle-piece and worked herself into the Looking Glass House. Which was quite a curious thing of course for Alice had only been pretending to be able to get through the mirror. Yet she had done it and there was nothing else much for it. She was now in the Looking Glass House, though she wasn’t scared at all. And she watched a very interesting situation with the White King and Queen of a chessboard. She helped them as best she could of course but they were terribly frightened. Well, as interesting as the King and Queen were, Alice didn’t have time to watch them lest she lose her chance to explore the whole Looking Glass realm. So out Alice rushed into the garden.
In the garden she came across talking flowers. And such a thing was always interesting to discover. She found out that they could talk because their flower bed was terribly hard. And all the other gardens were fast asleep since the ground was so soft. But it was in this very same garden that Alice met the Red Queen. No longer a chess piece, she was in fact as human looking as Alice was… or well… That wasn’t entirely true. Rather, the queen seemed to enlarge until she was taller than Alice, but she still resembled a chess piece. The queen told her all about how to get to the other side of the Looking Glass world and then promptly left. Alice was left to explore the world alone.
Well quite suddenly she found herself on a train without a ticket. Despite that the guard demanded it again and again. Her compartment companions were a very curious sort. And as soon as the train traveled through a brook, Alice was no longer on the train and was in fact under a tree with one of the creatures in the train compartment. The little gnat (for that was one of her companions on the train) and she informed her about the forest where no one had any names, and Alice found herself in that as well. And as she was informed would happen, she actually couldn’t remember her own name. Going through these woods, she actually found a road to Tweedledum and Tweedledee’s house in the forest.
At the Tweedle's home she found herself confronted with a most curious set of twins. Oh they were perfectly pleasant of course, but terribly peculiar. She enjoyed listening to their poetry and even playing a small game with them. They also showed her the Red King, who the twins claimed was dreaming about them all and everything and especially her. At any minute if he were to wake Alice would disappear. Of course, Alice found nothing but nonsense in this fact. However the merriment between the three ended quickly when Tweedledum accused Tweedledee of playing and ruining his new rattle. This of course led to a fight that they demanded Alice help them prepare for. She did, of course, but before they even began, a big black crow came down and scared them away. While they ran away Alice was left alone yet again - something she was becoming strangely used to. Whilst she was in the woods and watched the twins run off, she met the White Queen who was perhaps one of the most nonsensical people she had ever met, which was saying quite a bit. They had a long conversation, and at one point the White Queen turned into a sheep and they were suddenly in a shop. Alice was getting quite used to suddenly appearing in places after taking a single step.
Whilst in the White Queen’s shop (such a curious thing, a Queen turned Sheep owning a shop) Alice bought an egg. When she went to reach for the egg on the shelf she suddenly found herself in the woods and the egg was no longer a small egg on the shelf. It was Humpty Dumpty sitting on a wall. She had a very lovely conversation with him. And even learned what all the words in the Jabberwocky poem she didn’t understand was. She also learned about unbirthdays. After a dismissal from the egg Alice went on her way and met up with the White King. He had sent all four thousand two hundred and seven soldiers to go fix up Humpty Dumpty, who had apparently fallen after Alice had walked away. While speaking to the White King, they found out that the Lion and the Unicorn were fighting for the crown, something they seemed to do quite often, even if it was the White King’s crown they were fighting for. The King’s messengers (the March Hare and Hatter) were there to help assist the king. When the fight came to a pause, she met the unicorn. She had never met a unicorn of course and it had never met her. Of course she also met the lion, meeting only one and not the other was rude. The King, Hatter, Hare, and everyone else had plum cake. But then drums from nowhere started playing and Alice wanted nothing to do with that.
She found herself in the woods again (and such a curious thing that Looking Glass had so many woods). Alice was nearly taken prisoner by the red knight when the white knight came and rescued her. Though the white knight was a very idle-minded fellow, yet inventive all the same. And such a number of inventions he had! All terribly curious things! It was after the lovely ballad that the White Knight sang to her, and the many inventions he showed her, that Alice reached the other end of the Looking Glass World and became a Queen herself.
There was a long conversation between her and the Red and White Queens until the two queens fell right asleep on Alice. But after several minutes the queens simply disappeared! Well Alice went over to the door where her name was on it. As she entered the door she was greeted to a grand banquet set out for her coronation feast. However, Alice didn’t get a bite to eat and eventually caught the Red Queen, putting the Red King in legitimate check mate. For that was what Alice’s adventure had been was one terribly large chess game and she the pawn having reached the other side to become a Queen. But when she started to grab the Red Queen, it turned back into her kitten.
For Alice had awoken.
[Personality]
At first glance Alice is a very bright and cheery natured little girl. She’s always trying to find the silver lining of a situation and could even be called an eternal optimist. She tries not to let anything bother her for too long or too much. She will actually berate herself if she gets too upset over something (this will sometimes induce more tears). She will also endeavor to help other people find something positive about a situation since she doesn’t like the idea of people being down-trodden for very long. If she sees that someone is having a hard time, Alice will actually try and help them; be it as simple as making them a cup of tea or helping take care of someone. She accepts that being sad or angry is a part of living, but she thinks that they are much easier to handle if someone is helping. That is not to say Alice doesn’t get that sometimes people want to be alone. However it will sometimes take people outright telling her they need to be alone for her to actually do this. Again, it isn’t because she doesn’t understand it, but rather she feels that people shouldn’t be left alone when they’re feeling that terrible. Alice will do everything she can to make a situation better or help a person if someone is hurt or sick. Depending on how deeply she feels for someone, she may drive herself into exhaustion to either help or take care of another person.
Alice is also very honest. She tries not to lie to anyone (herself or otherwise), even if the lie would be better to tell. She is not unable to lie per say but she is quite terrible at the act and her lies are easily discovered. When she knows she shouldn’t say what she’s thinking, she will just remain silent. But Alice isn’t only honest in the terms of lying or telling the truth. But her emotions are very honest too. When she is happy she is enthusiastically happy, when she is sad, or angry she will show it. It is in her nature to try and make other people happy too by doing something good for them or taking care of them. She doesn’t hide what she is feeling though she tries to downplay any sadness she may be feeling simply because she doesn’t wish to trouble anyone with it. She doesn’t want anyone’s good mood to be brought down because of any of her negativity, but she will also honestly tell someone if she is upset should they ask. Alice is also honest in what she thinks of people. If she thinks that what you are doing or saying is nonsense or even stupid, she will say so (although depending on how she feels about you, she will be kinder in telling you about your nonsense). But by that same token, if she is very fond of you she will show you how she feels with physical affection. Alice is a very physically affectionate girl and will hug and hold those she cares for or those she thinks needs it. The dearer you are to her, the longer her physical affection will last. And if she should happen to fight with someone she is close too, she will be mad at first and then endeavor to apologize since she doesn’t enjoy being at odds with those she loves. But if you aren’t that close to her, she will stop talking to you and decide you aren’t worth it if you continuously push her away.
Alice won’t let herself get pushed around for very long. She can be pushed around to a certain point because she tries to be polite. But if she is pushed too far (and it doesn’t take much to push her far), she becomes persnickety and even snarky in her actions and replies. When she is first insulted she will actually try to ignore it if it is a minor insult. But if she is continuously pushed she will push back. She doesn’t care if you’re a king, noble, or some mythical creature, she won’t let herself be pushed around and she will you call you out on your rudeness or insult. She will even insult you back if she thinks you deserve it. And it doesn’t even take all that much for her to get pushed to be persnickety. Her full temper may even be brought out if the fight is continuous or she thinks that someone’s stupidity and nonsense is outrageous. If Alice no longer wants to fight or she thinks that something is complete drivel she will walk away and ignore the thing completely. Her temper, while not violent, is easy to pull out of her.
Alice can actually be an outright brat if she’s pushed far enough or she feels something is rather unjust. And she won’t care that she’s a brat until much later (if at all). But she is generally a sweet girl and doesn’t actually enjoy insulting people or being insulted. She is not easily frightened by any means. Even if something is outright mean or nasty or scary she may not actually care. She isn’t even frightened by being harmed since she can be threatened with beheading and not bat an eye at it (though if someone actually moved to strike or harm she would be scared by it, but the threat alone does not scare her). That isn’t to say Alice isn’t scared of anything. She’s actually petrified of the dark and the prospect of someone dear to her getting hurt can terrify her. Among a list of other things (extremely large bugs are on that list). On a whole, however, little frightens her.
Perhaps, one of the biggest things about Alice is that she is an extremely curious girl and also very imaginative. It is because of her huge imagination and her curiosity that her adventures even take place. She will allow her imagination and curiosity to take full effect and dictate her actions until both are sated. Her curiosity rarely takes a side seat to a situation since she is an inquisitive girl about nearly everything. While her curiosity can make her impatient or curt, she does try to be patient and is generally polite in most situations. In fact she will try to be patient and polite in general provided she is not in a stressful or aggravating environment. While her curiosity is not the only thing about Alice, it is certainly a large factor. Her curiosity in fact can make her reckless to her own body. For example, she will drink a bottle labeled "DRINK ME" or a cake labeled "EAT ME" for the mere curiosity of what it would do to her and if it would possibly help her goals. It is also her curiosity that allows Alice to adapt to a situation and generally go with the flow of the situation. While she may ask numerous questions about it she will still go along with everything.
Alice is also a peculiar mix of extremely naïve and yet very logical. She will trust and listen to someone very easily until something presents itself not to trust them. And if it is a minor slight, Alice will in fact give them a second chance if they appear sincerely dismayed. She may still find what you did or said to be nonsense or otherwise, but she will give you a second chance because she thinks everyone deserves one. But she is also logical in that she has common sense and will use it. She will also use her logic to make an argument against someone. Her logical decisions will sometimes take a back seat to her curiosity or her concern for those she cares about. Logic has no place in some situations as far as she is concerned. In fact, Alice’s emotions will over power any logic she might be presented with even if she herself agrees with the facts. If that is the case, she may call herself silly later but in the heat of the moment, she will not care about logic. Another part of Alice’s naïveté and logic combined is that he will not judge anyone based on anyone’s appearance. Because she has met too many odd looking things to actually be bothered by things like looks to weigh if they are kind, mean, or stupid. Alice will judge someone on their actions. Once her opinion is formed about something though, it is a little harder to shake that opinion because she is very stubborn in her opinion and actions.
Because she has been through both Wonderland and the Looking Glass (and both are the result of her imagination) Alice has the odd quirk of using the words she learned there. Alice is also very bad about going on tangents and may completely forget what the topic was to begin with. If something of interest has been said to her or she has thought of something that is curious, she will continue on that train of thought. She also has the tendency to forget what word she intended to say and try very hard to remember what the right word she meant was. If she’s learning a new word she has never before heard, she will try to match it with words she already knows.
Likewise Alice enjoys talking to herself or asking questions to herself. The reason behind it is so she can reason something out or try to make sense of a situation. Ultimately, Alice wants things to make sense to her curiosity. Once she understands, her curiosity can be fully sated. Alice is also nosy (mostly because of her curiosity). If something has gained her interest or something curious has been said, she will seek it out and investigate because she wants to know about it. As stated previously she wants to understand it. She’s also a very talkative little girl. If given the opportunity; she will recite any poetry she remembers because it is a sign of her education and a well bred lady. Alice actually wants to be a proper lady like her mother and sister both whom she regards very highly. She will endeavor to mimic her mother and sister in certain things simply because they are proper ladies. And like being a proper lady, Alice is a pacifist (gentle to be more specific) by nature. She does not actually think that fighting will solve a problem but she does understand certain fights cannot be avoided. She doesn’t like the idea of hurting anyone or being hurt. Much like her eternal optimism, Alice wants to think that there is a way to solve a problem without fighting.
[Specialties/Abilities] Alice has no abilities as far as fighting and magical powers go (unless you were to count her vast imagination). However, Alice is quite adept at baking and cooking even at her age. She can also do some sewing and embroidering because it’s what a proper lady should know. She knows French and a little Latin (though not enough of the latter for it to be useful). In general, anything that a young lady would know of her era she either knows or was learning it (or going to learn it).
Alice also makes amazing daisy-chains and flower crowns.
[Affection] Any and all affection be it negative or positive towards Alice is welcomed. If you want to be her best friend or her stalker (or both) I’m all for it. Just come talk to me.
[Fighting] I’m all for killing Alice provided you talk to me first. You’re also welcome to fight her (mind you she can’t fight at all so it will be an instant win).
[Other Permissions] Feel free to:
- Read her mind (it might scare your muse)
- Break her fourth wall (she won’t necessarily believe you anyways)
- Hack any of her journals
[Other Facts]
Alice, because she is from the Victorian era, has a very different idea of what is proper and improper as far as interactions with people and "vulgarity" is concerned. Alice herself will never allow herself to be in anything that does not cover her legs completely and her arms to some degree. Because of this, "indecent" and "improper" things such as revealing clothing or language that would be vulgar to a woman. She will actually act different to what are seemingly normal would shock her to some degree (she will get used to it though). She will also be slightly more mature and patient than a normal child since it was a different culture. Indoor plumbing will amaze her. She will also not be really… amazed for very long should she meet a mythical creature or monster. She’s met amazingly odd and somewhat scary things; you will have to go a long way for her to actually be started about what you are. Alice will also have major technology fail as far as making entries private may go or well… technology in general.
Another important thing to take note of oocly is that since Alice has no experience with languages such as Japanese, Chinese, so on, she will have a tendency to mispronounce names and will continuously do so until properly corrected. The mispronunciation is rather obvious so it's just up to you as a mun on whether a muse would correct her.
