World's End

Apr 15, 2007 16:01

Presenting one and all - my new project. Not entirely sure on the format yet, this is just my ideas.

Me and Geoff are currently working on the alpha build of the rules, then I can really get to grips with the background and plot etc.

What do y'all think as an idea?

How much do you trust your players? masati April 15 2007, 20:40:13 UTC
The trouble with heroes from any time and place comes in with your players. Some will, possibly unwittingly, take the piss in where they come from ( ... )

Races are a very good point. Depending on the scale of the game - and what level of ref-to-player personal caretaking is envisaged - it might be an idea to leave it completely open, have everybody be an utterly generic character in terms of stats etc, but award extra character generation/advancement points for costume and makeup above and beyond the call of duty?

Awarding points for good costume/makeup will annoy people with little/no propping ability and get you accused of favouritism. Not a can of worms I'd like to open.

Is it sad that I've already got an idea for a character already?

But that is basically what Maelstrom does. It's quite unashamed about it in the latest version of the rules - it says "Humans have no makeup requirement so get no special abilities" in pretty much those words.

I suppose the "judging on individual merits" thing would leave things open to accusations of abuse. Perhaps there could be a simple transparent grading system (like "all-over body makeup: 2xp", "completely immobile: 20xp").

Remember, modern day weapons add another level of complexity, so it isn't a bad thing.

Sorry buddy :D

And yes, it will be an orgy of plagiarism, at least for the basics.

Heavily influenced by Neil Gaiman (obviously) but also King Rat by China Mieville and the Fables series of graphic novels.

It has potential... I would like to know more when you flesh it out with background and rules and what not.

But! this said... currently this seems like sandman vs fables.

*shrugs*

Yeah, kinda...

However, I hope to have the very basic alpha verion, at least of the background, up within the next few months

I have wisely not set myself a timetable or event date yet, so if my Writer's Block hits I won't scream and cry...
