30 Days of Potter - day #16 - fandom participation

Aug 14, 2010 15:17

16. How have you participated in the fandom over the years?

I think I answered most of this in my 'Day #15' post yesterday.

Started off reading fan fiction, followed some authors to Livejournal, got into the swing of commenting on personal blogs, then the more general discussions in various communities. In the two-year interstitial period between OotP and HBP I enjoyed more and more discussing the HP 'shipping'; that period also saw my conversion into a H/Hr man just before HBP came out.

After Deathly Hallows I ventured onto Fiction Alley, where I got heavily involved (for me) into the discussion forums there. For the last 2.5 years I've undoubtedly spent more time arguing debating HP topics there than on Livejournal.

Still reading the HP fan fiction.

And that's about it.

Now that you've read my entry I'll refer you to avidbeader's post for this particular topic here and adamanteve19's response here. Because their entries are much more exciting. Moderating web sites, role playing, conventions, meeting up with online friends - I'd love to do that, I think; as long as I'd worked out what to do when meeting online enemies :-). And they're both fair dinkum fanfic authors.

(See, if I'd mentioned their posts at the start you would never have bothered perusing my own pedestrian account, right? :-))
