One thing Dean will always, always remember about Rose - even when fire is pouring from heaven and the end is coming and he's all alone - is her laugh.
Her lips spread back to reveal her teeth, and the pink of her tongue peeks through. The sound that comes out is sweet and joyful and something Dean has never, ever heard.
(It's not as if his life has that much joy in it to begin with).
She's talking to him, shaking with laughter, her words managing to struggle out through the convulsions in her abdomen. He can't hear what she's saying - he can only hear how she laughs. How light her voice sounds; her muffled words as her blonde hair falls down in her face.
It's the one constant in his life, and for that he's grateful.
They can be standing in the middle of a haunted mansion, or trapped in the forest, or riding in the Impala, and the airiness of her sweet laughter will break through the surrounding tension and he'll feel a moment - just a moment - of release.
When he reaches down to grab her hand, the laughter doesn't stop. He squeezes tighter, and she responds in turn.
The giggling subsides and all Dean can hear is Rose's heavy breathing as she tries to calm herself.
One look at him and she's at it again.
Her mouth opens and she lets out a hearty laugh, peach colored lips wide apart. She looks over to him, and giggles.
Their hands are still clasped together.
He can feel a smile coming to his face as he looks into her grinning eyes. "Yeah, it's funny," he says. He still has no clue what she's laughing about.
She won't stop laughing and Dean hopes that she'll never stop. So when he's alone and fighting, goddammit without her, he'll be able to hold on to something. The sweet cream of her laugh; the cherry blossom of her lips; all of her.
(One thing Dean will always, always remember about Rose - even when the skies rain down death and absolution is out of his grasp - is how much he loves her.)
