I ask them to take a simple object
and make it a part of them.
Make it graceful and beautiful.

When they can’t tell sweat from rain
as it drips from their noses,
I ask them to make me believe.
Catch harder, stretch farther, smile bigger.
This is what I ask of them.

And after it’s all over,
the tears of exhaustion and frustration
are well worth it.
Believe me, they say.

That night, they are greeted,
under peering lights and a cleared sky,
by hundreds of unreadable faces.
I sit among this and wait.

Yet, with fury, audible smacks
upon their controlled hands
produce elation in their eyes.
As they continue, bending their knees
and propelling upwards towards the sky,
I swear they are capable of anything.

As a steady hand beats a drum,
it is overwhelmed with the
deafening applause and cheer
that surrounds me in the stands.

I gaze down to find that
they’ve left their hearts on that field,
still beating with the fire of performance.
And that night with every note, catch, and set,
I learned to believe.

It's based on a poem that we read in class about actually getting the meaning of a poem and not just analyzing every word (like he has us do XD) but it kinda reminded me of the technical vs performing aspects of guard.. just letting go and performing. ...Yep. MH is totally the speaker, haha that's what I decided. So yeah just bored student aide and decided to post it. Pie eating contest is during 4th block.. holler at the lack of awkward spanish class!

PENNCREST SHOW TMRW!!! <3 let's get it ladies!
