Summer Movies

You know, it wasn't that long ago that film goers had the choice between The French Connection, Last Picture Show, Klute, The Conversation, Harold and Maude, McCabe and Mrs Miller (playing at LACMA in 4 weeks for interested parties...), Dirty harry and Clockwork Orange in one weekend.

Now I'm having trouble finding as many films I'd like to see ( Read more... )

Nope. we have a dude in NYC who doesn't require a plane ticket to attend. it's more likely that I will be going to the film market in sept or the gotham awards in nov.

Do you want to see Justin Lin's new film?

1) I think the thing about "Across the Universe" is that the trailer sucks. They can't decide who they are marketing to, and that will be its failure. Or it could turn into some sort of Moulin Rouge with a cult-like following. I am undecided about this one.
2) I such agree about Eagle Vs Shark. Wasn't this at Sundance? Or something?
3) VC Film fest? Venice Cinema? Very Careful? Vice City? Did you mean VD instead of VC? I can't believe I don't know this one.
4) You know, I should have figured you would be going to Cannes again. I hate you.

4) I'm not going to Cannes until next year. I'm actually only going to LAFF for sure and possibly SFIFF - I just have a lot of work to do for each fest.

3) VCFF is the LA asian pacific film fest. i don't know what VC stands for, it's not on any of their stationary...

2) E vs S was at sundance, but I was busy.

1) Want to see it with me? I know how you love your beatles (being bastardized)

Yes, we should totally go see "Across the Universe". I love me some Julie Taymor at the very least.

I will be attending movies at AMC, and Loews theaters with the rest of the masses. I am not interested in your elitist film festivals, so sip your cappuccinos, talk about existentialism, and play your scrabble. In the meantime I will be sitting in front of the crying baby, and just to the right of the loud teen-boppers. And I’ll be finding out what audiences really want. Don't knock The Jaws; some people like popcorn movies, and date movies; myself included.

...unless you happen to have some extra tickets, or if there are any after parties, or you know something like that.

When i was a kid, i read Lana Wood's biography of her sister, "Natalie" and so have always known that Lana Wood had a daughter named Evan. When Evan Rachel Wood made the scene, i was so sure it must have been Natalie's neice but today i can't find any info on that, think Evan Rachel Wood is maybe too young, and i've been wrong all these years. Additionally, i can't believe i profess to be such a fan of Shirley MacLaine, yet didn't know until today that she's Warren Beatty's sister. hmmph.

Did you know that before Tuesday Weld was offered (and turned down) the part of Bonnie, Shirley MacLaine was the first choice for the part (even after Warren beatty had been cast as Clyde Barrow?!?)

Tho it's easy to understand the problem. When you need a ballsy actress in 1960's Hollywood, wouldn't Shirley MacLaine always be the first choice? I also didn't know she was born in Richmond!
