Phishing warning

I've just received an email with the subject line "crazy stuff" that purports to be from Gretchen Roper and is sent to a bunch of people who would be on her mailing list. It's uncharacteristic, and it urges people to follow a link to a website I've never heard of, so I conclude someone has hijacked her address book for phishing purposes ( Read more... )

That's right. Not sent by Gretchen. Not using the mail server that we use.

This has gone on for months. I regularly get similar spam from other friends.

Also, I don't think anyone grabbed her address book -- I see these messages with addresses that I *know* didn't come from her address book, so I think they just grabbed a patch from an email somewhere and grafted things together.
