Summary :It was about the deal to plug into Hyukjae’s heart and Donghae could go out.
Warning : Unbetaed, kinda metaphoric etc, etc.
A/N : Actually I planned this as my five years drabbles back on September but I only managed to write one, and finally posted this because of the melancholy feelings that the rainy days give me. Highly inspired by

As Far as the Length of the Wires
They agreed to plug in the headphones to each other. Donghae would plug the headphone to his vocal chord, so that Hyukjae would hear and immediately know his story about the forest while he was walking around the forest. In return, Donghae chose to plug another headphone in Hyukjae’s chest, right through the flesh and It hurt a bit when it pierced Hyukjae’s heart deeply.
“Here.” Donghae put the headphone on Hyukjae’s ears. “You’ll be able to know everything about the forest now. I’ll tell everything I see.”
Donghae smiled as he put the other headphone on his own ears, “I can hear your heartbeats and I am sure your heartbeat will guide me immediately back here no matter how far I go.”
Hyukjae listened to every story Donghae told him, about the bird nest on top of a big tree near their house, the river and its cold water, the prairie with myriad flowers, the warmth of the sunshine, how pretty the night sky was, and how Donghae liked everything outside and he wanted Hyukjae to be outside, with him right now. But Hyukjae couldn’t, if he went out from the house, everything would fall apart, the forest, the animals inside it, literally their world which they had built perfectly with Hyukjae’s freedom as its price, where they stayed and lived would fall apart and they had to face the big ugly dark and dirty world outside the forest.
Hyukjae didn’t know how long it had been, maybe hours, days, weeks, months or maybe years, he lost the count because of Donghae’s interesting story or maybe because of Donghae’s voice that echoed right on his ears. He just knew, it must have been long, since the wire started to run out, the roll of the headphone’s wire that connected them was becoming less and less, but Hyukjae couldn’t tell Donghae to stop, to go back to their house, to their comfortable zone, because his voice couldn’t reach out the far away Donghae and Donghae seemed happy, being able to explore the forest and taste the freedom that Donghae never had to sacrifice in order to build their perfect world.
Hyukjae saw the wire tightening on his chest, and it was unplugged from his chest, also his heart and he lost track of Donghae’s voice, slowly Donghae’s voice started to fade and changed into noisy buzzing sound. And it hurt, more than when Donghae plugged it into Hyukjae’s heart, and now there was a small hole on his chest also on his heart. Small but it hurt enough and caused blood start to flow from that tiny hole. Hyukjae smiled, it was okay, it didn’t hurt at all, he thought, as long as Donghae was happy. Hyukjae fell on the floor as he stared at the plug which just detached from his chest, blood from his chest stained the floor and his vision started to blur. ‘Donghae was free now’, he spoke his last thought.
Donghae stopped when the heartbeats that he had been listening to for all the time, had stopped, together with the wire on his throat got unplugged. Staring in horror at the wire that was on the ground now, he then took it and ran in panic, tracing back the wire, plugging it back to his throat.
“Hyukjae.” Donghae spoke shakily, biting his lower lip. “Hyukjae, I am coming back home.” Tears started to flow.
Donghae ran without any direction, except for the wire that he was tracing now. He lost the heartbeats, the only thing that he listened to, the only thing that could guide him back home directly without tracing back the wire, without taking a long journey through the forest. ‘Hyukjae, Hyukjae, Hyukjae, Hyukjae’ Donghae called out all the way back home with his shaky voice as if he was casting a spell to make him be able to hear Hyukjae’s heartbeat again.
“Hyukjae, I miss you.” Donghae cried harder as he stumbled upon a wild root that grew on the ground. “I am coming back home, Hyuk.”
Donghae just realized how scary the forest was. It was too quite and the occasional sounds from animals that filled the silent scare him more. He wanted to go home, he wanted to be safe, at least he wanted to be able to hear Hyukjae’s heartbeats again while he was going back, as if the heartbeats was a mantra that protected him from any harm that the forest possessed. The journey was enough, he didn’t want it anymore, he just wanted to be home, together with Hyukjae, he just wanted Hyukjae.
“Hyuk, I am scared.” Donghae sobbed as he passed a dark big tree, dirt on his face. “I don’t want to continue this anymore. It’s scary.” Donghae’ sobs got harder as the night came.
“I wanna go home, please.” Donghae wiped the never ending tears from his cheeks.
