I got a puppy!

She's a Corgi/Jack Russell mix, about seven months old, and soooo cute. I brought her home from the shelter yesterday, and I'm totally in love. I took these pictures with my cell phone camera, so they kind of suck. Dad took some good ones yesterday with an actual camera, so once he emails them to me, I'll post them, too.

Meet Spock... )

Spock is a great name! "I am, and always will be, your friend." :) Plus, the ears.

Someone in the office suggested Spot (which doesn't suit her nearly so well), but I thought she said Spock. It made everyone laugh, and even though she is a girl dog, I think it's perfect. She seems to like it, too, and she's responding to it pretty well.

Our friend, who does a lot of animal training and the like, suggested we use a two syllable name for training since most commands are one syllable and it can confuse her, so sometimes I call her Spocky or Spoxie (she looks a bit like a fox), too.

Interesting! I would've never thought of the two syllable name thing. I'd go with Spoxie. Rhymes with moxie, and that's just a great word.

Yeah, I wasn't sure I was ready--I'm still not completely convinced, but she's here and we're happy about that.

Thanks! :)

AWWWW! So cute! I'm glad you went to a shelter too, instead being one of those people who spend $1000 on some prissy dog.

Yeah, my husband wanted a puppy, so I knew it might take a few visits to the shelter to find one (just three times!), but since it's "back to school" special month, her donation fee was half off. We got her (spayed, microchipped, free initial vet visit) for $37.50!
