So my car is dying a slow death. I need to get a new car. I am usually looking for used cars but someone said i would be better off buying new. My problem is I don't know what to buy. I usually buy Dodge but my mechanic says most of them have the same dysfunctional engine problems as the one I have now. He suggested getting a Honda. My other friend ( Read more... )

Thanks. I took your advice. I found this great car, a 2006 Toyota Corolla with 31 k on it for 12995. Unfortunately, I returned yesterday with my dad to test drive it and as we waited for my salesman who was on another test drive, another salesman sold the car to this girl. I was pissed to say the least. She had gone on a test drive when I arrived and while I waited for 20 minutes she purchased it. grrrrrr

Well our family tends to drive Chevy vehicles. I'm driving a 1999 Chevy S10 Blazer that has over 154K miles on it - and it's still truckin' along. It's had some issues with the compressor/ac/heat ... and a couple of things are starting to get ill (power locks for one), but the engine is still good.

Toyotas have a great rep. I've been hearing good things about the Hyundais (now - not when they first came out). Of course if I was getting a new car I'd be tempted by the Mini, but that doesn't fit the $10K budget.

Chevy has the Aveo Sedan starting at around $12K and the Cobalt that starts around $16K.

I was looking at several cars earlier this year but most of them were domestic. My Fords did well until about 80,000 miles and then I had to replace many things (at which point they were good to go). I'm currently driving a Pontiac Bonneville with nearly 200,000 miles on it and I like it a lot but others in my family have had terrible luck with Pontiac.

On the other hand, I've known several people with Hondas that you couldn't beat to death with a stick. Considering where you're living, a Honda or toyota wouln't be a bad idea (I live in the sticks far from any convenient dealerships).
