Read Your Coupons Well

This past Saturday morning I went to Macy's - reluctantly, I might add as I had chosen to boycott them after they took my beloved Strawbridge's from me.  I went only to buy maternity clothes.  I have been looking around at a lot of places and they appeared to have a very good selection and reasonable prices.  I also had a 20% coupon that no where ( Read more... )

Good for you! I'm glad you got your discount, though you shouldn't have had to fight so hard for it.
And Kelly and I loved the cookies! Thanks!

I'm glad you enjoyed them. I actually still haven't tasted the gingerbread with the icing. I know they were good without it and I was just hoping they were good with it.

They were good with it. I think that icing makes everything better.
In fact, we had a few the other night, and when I went to have a cookie for breakfast the next morning (cuz I'm gross), they were all gone.

EW!

My mom worked for both Strawbridges and Macys, and as soon as a customer couldn't use a coupon, she immediately got a manager so that the coupon could be used. The customer is always right.

PS - I bought my maternity clothes on ebay, cuz I'm classy like that. I got 25 outfits for $25.

I worked at Strawbridge's as well as a host of other department/retail stores and I would just give them the discount. I didn't feel like arguing and if there was a line waiting I always felt it more important to get through the line than argue about pennies. Especially when I sold shoes for commission. Even though the more they spent, the more went in my pocket I always felt customer satisfaction was more important. Repeat customers means more money in the long run. And time is everything when you work for commission.

I was so tempted to say something like, "Strawbridge's would have given it to me without a problem!"

Good for you! If I'd been in line behind you, I wouldn't have complained if I'd known what was going on. Who wouldn't fight for $33 off? Especially for maternity clothes, because it's not like you'll be wearing them the rest of your life, so you might as well save a buck. And if I worked in a department store, I would give people discounts left and right. It's not my money.
I miss Strawbridge's. I was in the Macy's in Concord Mall a few weeks ago and it just wasn't the same. It was terrible to lose a store unique to Philly to Macy's, which is already everywhere. Now everything is the same.

I agree....I always think that way, too - I'd be giving people the stinkin' discounts all the time if I worked there.

I would have done the SAME EXACT thing if that had been me. I wouldn't let them rook me out of my coupon! When I've been in places that wouldn't honor a coupon or discount, I've actually just told them to take if off my bill and I'll refuse to buy it!

I hate people. LOL
