Wow, this is a weird feeling. I just turned down a signing opportunity because I didn't like the physical setup. I was invited to participate in the Carolina Renaissance Faire's third annual Literary Weekend, but they were putting us outside the front gates, where people walk past but do not buy. Good for you! Your time is valuable and if the event won't produce sales or enough connection to fans it isn't worth it.

I just can't quite believe I did it. I kept worrying that this would ruin any chance of signing at faire again, but my feelings against the spot outside the gate were too strong. And now that I've sent the email, I still don't regret it.

Bring a dirty martini with that feather boa, 'kay? *laughs*

Oh, honey. That's not divahood, that's just self-respect. I remember the booth outside the gates and it was sucky ---no one felt like they had time to stop, and you were subject to the dust storm from all four sides. The only outside the gate thingo I've seen work (that wasn't staff juggling fire after close) was the SPAM truck, because, well, free spam and huge and bright blue and funny to every single Monty Python fan attending fair that day.

Thank you, sweetie. I was hoping that I wasn't misremembering the experience, so it's wonderful to have backup. I had forgotten about the dust!!!
