I just ordered $640 worth of parts for the Z. The labor estimate to install them, and fix the bad knock sensor, is $1,000 ( Read more... )

John says you forgot to mention you are getting a new flux capacitor, too.

Speaking of which... guess what's sitting at the Johnson Autoplex? (inside a locked warehouse, obviously)

Where'd you get the hose? I need a spool of that stuff to replace all the 12yo vacuum lines in the bug. (it'l losing boost at WOT -- @ ~3k RPM which is where max boost happens)

I got my 4mm (5/32") hose on Amazon- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004PQ13U6/

The 6.5 mm (1/4") was from Z1 Motorsports- http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_info.php?products_id=3436

However, if you are getting good idle, with no weird hesitation or stalling issues, then your problem may not be vacuum leaks, but boost leaks. Or your wastegate may be opening early. So look at your boost sensor hoses, check the wastegate solenoids and actuators...

You'd think, but the vdub is, well, weird. It's totally fly-by-wire, so as long as the various sensors are working, it'll always idle where the computer thinks it should. A small vacuum leak can trip some of the safety measures which will make it dump the turbo. (the VW engineers appear to have been more than a little paranoid about over-boost. as it'll destroy the engine, I'm right there with 'em.)

I thought the plan was to keep her stock.

Drove a super nice 370 the other day. The fairlady 370 was spectacular also.

The ECU upgrade was there when I purchased the car (as was the Jim Wolf Technology POP Charger, the Stillen cat-back exhausts, the stainless steel brakelines and the Alpine cd/receiver). It came with a full set of uninstalled Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings (all the steering and front suspension ones have now been installed- due to the factory ones failing).

All I am doing under the hood is replacing hoses that have perished with silicone ones. The new intercoolers are just going to help the engine run better with the higher boost (lower the chance of suffering from knock, especially with the crappy fuel we are forced to buy).

I am definitely not trying to squeeze every last bit of horsepower out of it- as they say with the Z you can have fast, reliable and affordable- choose any two.

I do not care for the new Z. If I wanted a Maxima I would just get the 4 door version. The GT-R is much nicer.

I see no issue with any of this. You should've seen the list of things I did to the Cobra because, well, it needed it. (Like 14 psi boost and a lighter rear axle assembly.)
