2 days! You should come watch us race. They've replaced engines in an hour. (in my 2.5 years on the team, it's never been necessary[*]) We've replaced head gaskets in half an hour. (because that's how long it took to drive to a store to get one.) Heck, we've *built* an engine in a few hours (the aforementioned engine) the day (actually *very* night) before an HPDE weekend after the new race engine pulled a rod bearing apart on the dyno.

[*] ok, last race it was "necessary" (the piston skirts shattered, one got sideways and cracked the sleeve), but there was only an hour left.

Have you ever looked under the hood of his Z? It'd take an hour just to figure how to did down to the engine ;p

No his, but I've seen several generations of them. And he's not under pressure to get it back on trackthe road.

I suppose it could be worse. Subaru SVX's need the engine pulled from the car in order to get to the plugs.

I sure hope pulling the engine is relatively simple!

Many people who have replaced the knock sensor on the Z have speculated that it was easier to pull the transmission to get at it from below than the "Nissan approved" method of pulling the throttle body, the intakes and the timing belt.

Nissan dealers quote $3,000 to replace the knock sensor.

It's things like this that make me appreciate open and accessible engine bays that you can climb into.
