Just about everyone who likes movies has seen him (unless they haven't seen "Love, Actually" in which case what is wrong with them
*gasp* i knew he looked familiar!! every time i watch sherlock i go almost insane trying to figure out where i've seen him before. i appear to have lost my copy so i'm slowly starting to forget :-(
Heee! Yes, people often forget he was in it (I mean there are only several dozen awesome actors in that movie). He was one half of the couple who were the stand-ins for the erotic movie. Honestly, he looks a lot different now. Besides being almost ten years older he's about thirty pounds lighter than he was then. Incidentally, playing Co-Star Six Degrees, the woman he was paired with in that film was Joanna Page, who co-starred with Benedict in "To The Ends of the Earth."
You may also recognize him from Office UK, which is where most Brits still know him from the most.
Good point about him appearing to lay low. Freeman's incredible when it commons to particularly non-showy quiet everyman roles with admirable inner strength.
I cannot adequately express how excited I am for this film.
Benedict (no slouch himself in the acting department) has made many statements about his admiration of Martin's acting chops. One in particular tickled me, and I'm paraphrasing, but it was something like "He's over there doing some quiet Mike Leigh thing while I'm in the flouncy coat with the showy speeches."
And yes, he does seem to keep getting cast as the regular guy swept up in exciting adventure quite by surprise.

I think my favorite part was Gollum's eager delivery of, "If Bagginns loses, we eats it whole!"
