I know, a bit late, but there you go.  I had a lovely holiday at home in Wisconsin, although I had to drive back sooner than I would have liked to beat the bad weather system that was moving into Ohio.  We had cold temperatures and quite a lot of snow for a few weeks but now it's warming up rapidly - in the 60s by this weekend! - and raining, so ( Read more... )

Visit Leeds Castle! ext_1587330 January 9 2013, 21:02:00 UTC

This is very random - started following your blog ages ago from the HP fandom but never commented I think (hello!) - saw this post on my feed today and just had to suggest Leeds Castle. I studied abroad in London about 6 years ago during college and this was the best day trip out of the city I did hands down - it's a short bus ride (I can't remember exactly but I think around an hour and a half?) and so easy to get to. You can easily spend 5 hours exploring - there's a maze, vineyard, bird sanctuary, large grounds, and gorgeous castle.

anyway just had to let you know! if you like old historic amazing English places, this is it.

Cheers!

If you're up for advice from a random stranger on the internet, I can't imagine skipping Chatsworth! I'm a big house and garden geek and it's the very top of my must see list for houses if I even manage to get back over there.

Chatsworth is certainly worth it - I think their recent restoration work is done and the gold leaf on the windows and stonework make the building gleam. There's also the art to consider... An excellent selection of classical to very modern.

Plus nearby are Hardwick Hall, Haddon Hall and the whole of the beautiful Derbyshire Dales - great for walking.
