Just hand me down, give me a place to be....

So I'm a-sittin here trying to write a paper. It's long overdue. But it's dark and quiet and I can't think of anything to say. I don't want to look at my own words.
So I'm a-readin poetry to inspire me. No, distract me. Wait. That's not it either. It's all to remind me why I don't write the stuff myself.
No-talent hack, yessum that's me.

for some reason, amidst all this wonderful verse
i am reminded that criterion is releasing a Truffaut boxed set tomorrow.
conveniently, a late birthday present arrived in the guise of a borders gift card...

it isn't the same as going to france (you are a lucky one) but it's a nice substitute

ooooh, Truffaut! I have much catching up to do in the realm of French film. Criterion collections are always so good -- I would look into it but, alas, no borders gift cards anywhere on the horizon....
Have you ever seen Les Enfants du Paradis? One of the most beautiful films ever, French, English, or otherwise. If you don't know it, Jacques Prévert wrote the script. :)

yes, criterion has a lovely 2 disc set of Children of Paradise, including a video tribute by terry gilliam (similar to his one on 8 1/2) i love that movie, and it saddened me that i had to part with it because of something so trivial as rent.

this particular truffaut box has me in high spirits because it's the Antoine Doinel collection (The 400 Blows, Antoine & Collette, Stolen Kisses, Bed & Board, and Love on the Run)
i would love for criterion to put out Jules and Jim.

speaking of wonderful french films, Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast was just rereleased, and it looks fantastic.

hey yeah, I have the criterion DVD of Les enfants..... It's lovely, looks so much better than the video version I once saw. And of course I love the commentary by Terry Gilliam.
I will have to go check out all those wonderful films, thanks for the references!

Thank you for your poetic posting. It gave much much needed respite from trying to comprehend a mothercuntingfuckingarchaicanallyretentive law system. I give up! I should be reading poetry, literature or listening to Nick Drake. rant rant. I'm ranting. Where's my copy of Pink Moon?

(I just misspelled "Pink Moon" as "Punk Moon" which conjoured up hideous images of Billy Idol or somebody wrestling with Nick's back-catalogue...)

I can't wait for Billy Idol to do "Punk Moon"! Then he would cover Nick's others, as "Place to Pee" and "Way to Poo."
Sweet merciful jesus, please forgive me for my sacrilege.
Lift me up out of this illusion, Lord. Heal my perception that I may know only reality and only you......

Thought I'd get in on all the poetics with one of my favourites. And it's reasonably short, unlike most of my other favourite poems (Blake, "Mask of Anarchy" by Shelley ( ... )

that is so beautiful! Must go learn more about Noel Coward now. I've known about him for ages but never really investigated. Now I have that extra impetus that I need!
