Back and in action.
Just returned via train from the top of the mitten today. Vacation was...eventful...good and bad. Ro ended up with some sort of infection that looks like strep but is actually viral. Before he got sick we did manage to get in some canoeing, swimming, and light-housing. I am not terribly fond of spiders, however, and we did run into many of those... ( Read more... ) -

Hideous start to a long day ahead. I am still sitting at home because it is storming viciously outside my window, and since the bus is just one block too far away to run to in a lightning storm, I am stuck until this subsides. Cats and Dogs beware, Saudi Arabia is not on your side.
Since adopting, loving, and caring for pets is apparently one of the ways of evil westerners, the Saudi Arabian religious police, Mattawa (sp?), have decided that they will ban residents in the capital city from having cats and dogs.
They want people, especially youth, to stop parading around their pets in order to attract the opposite sex.

That time of year!
It has begun again. The best time of year is the fall, for many reasons. The air begins to get crisp, the holidays begin - at least the good ones like Halloween and Christmas, and Halloween Horror Nights returns for another year!

The real issue with guns...and an article.
With the Supreme Court rejecting the bann on handguns, the media and local enforcers in Chicago have been up in arms. The city, Mayor Daley et al, placed a bann on guns...(and foie gras, but that's a whole other story. In short Chicago treats its people like they are children who are unable to make their own decisions.)

Is anyone else slightly concerned about the gigantic atom smasher over in Fritzerland? (french/swiss border to be exact!) I would not say that I am run-around-screaming-that-the-world-is-going-to-end worried at all, but maybe I am a little concerned at the effects - even long-term effects - of this experiment.
