I'm pretty sure...

Having acquired the album it's on, and listened to it now, I am 97% sure that I have never in my life before this point heard the song Coin-Operated Boy. This explains why I was so often confused around people who had assumed that I must have. :)

Are you sure you're not 97.3% sure? :)

...having just listened to it now, I am over 99% sure I have never in my life heard it before. What a strange, strange song.

It is kind of distinctive sounding, isn't it?

I prefer the radio version to the album version. There's too much superfluous stuff on the album version.

WEQX played it here a bunch when it first came out. It caught my attention for being unusual - I had a hard time deciding whether or not I actually liked it. (Yup.)

Which album, though? It's a live song, and if you got the studio recording of it, you've got something very flat compared to the real thing. If you got the live album, you've got the real Coin Operated Boy (and also, an album with my name in the credits :)

I got the self titled album. I'm aware of how different they found live, though- it was funny listening to the album and hearing lots of tracks I had heard live versions of, this just didn't happen to be one of them.

This one in particular is a live song. It's like King of Spain by fruvous - if you've only heard the album version, you haven't heard the actual song yet.

That's all well and good, but my point was only that many, many people had assured me that I must have heard the song at some point, and now I'm sure I hadn't. :)
