For this post, I'm putting my Mad Men Season 2 and West Wing Season 2 unpopular opinions in the same post- but divided them with different cuts (with quotes thematic to the OPPOSITE show but both from S2 to amuse myself).

That's what it is. Right after admitting that we are powerless over alcohol and a higher power can restore us to sanity. That's where you come in. )

I FLOVE Bobbie Barrett. I love love love women who mentor younger women, who look out for them, and my love for BB was cemented with that great conversation she had with Peggy."You can't be a man--be a woman. It's powerful business when done properly." I love the almost tender way she gives this advice to Peggy. (And I've loved that actress ever since The X-Files!)

I love that scene between Bobbie and Peggy. It's very much part of my point that I liked Bobbie, the more that I knew about her. She had all of her uber-mistress personality notes- reading the gossip rags, her show-girl past, her starting instinct to compete with Peggy over Don- but yet, none of that dulled her instincts to give Peggy good advice and be a good houseguest. It's part of why I enjoyed the "mistress" stories- you can't judge women based on some sexual decisions.

Melinda McGraw is great- I loved her in The West Wing in a pretty thankless role as a Republican Christian right political hatchet-woman.

I did/do really love Freddy, even though he could be pretty misogynistic sometimes (wasn't everyone on the show, at one time or another?). But yeah, he deserved to be quote-unquote fired. (I always, always wanted Sal to be invited back later, and I was disappointed when that didn't happen.)

Bobbie - love the actress (also since X-Files), but I felt conflicted over the character. Don's relationship with her seemed borderline toxic, which was itself fascinating... but I always felt like she would bounce back immediately if he dumped her. Not so with some other ones (like Miss Farrell).

Yeah, I think Freddie deserved another chance after he got sober because he did give so many of his best years to SC and SC creates a culture of drunkenness. However, like any other company, SC had every right to let Freddy go at that point ( ... )
