Just Another Football Journal ... and NaNo

Did I mention I love football?  ^_^  My son's football season is already over, which makes me very sad.  His team had a lackluster record of 4-4, but his personal stats were great--at every position.  Basically, after the first couple of games, the coach started putting him in wherever they needed someone hit.  He played middle linebacker, fullback ( Read more... )

Just thought I'd publicly commit myself to participating in NaNoWriMo again this year. Last year, I failed abysmally. But I'm no quitter. ^_^

And because I'm nosy, I'm going to ask ~ what are you going to be writing? Something original?

The rest of the post I can't really comment on...football is totally foreign to me o.O

I thought about going with something original, since I've had a niggling of an idea for a trilogy for a while now, but the whole thing hasn't gelled with me enough yet for me to really start writing it up. So, this will be a fanfic. ^_^ And I am actually pretty darn excited about it.

I have deliberately refrained from doing the outline since I believe you're supposed to start NaNo pretty much from ground zero, AND I'm afraid that once I get started, I won't be able to stop. This will be my first attempt at an AU setting. This will also be my first attempt at a story with very little romance. (I'm always heavy on the romance!) The focus is squarely on the mystery. It is a crossover between IY and YYH, but the IY cast will be carrying the lion's share of the story. I haven't tried to write a summary for it before, but here's a stab at one to give you a little more idea about the story itself ( ... )

Cool! =) Working on Nihon Idol is going to be my NaNo project. Talk about a story in horrible need of an update...

"Fifty years ago, a powerful priestess was slain and her consort was gravely injured. Awakening from a coma with no memory of the attack, he finds himself the main suspect in her murder. With the aid of a young priestess who bears a striking resemblance to his dead love, Inuyasha goes on the run to try to clear his name and find the killer."

Oooh, this sounds really interesting!! Is it a modern-day setting? Because oh, the possibilities :D That's pretty ambitious, to tackle a mystery for your project, so I wish you the best of luck!

"Actually, I think you're supposed to spend October totally prepping your story (characters, setting, plot, etc etc etc) so all you have to do on November 1 is start writing. It's the whole "no editing" business that would drive me insane, and why I'd never sign up "for real" ~ I edit as I write, that's just the nature of my process. *twitches*"

Really? If that's the case, I may be in trouble. ^_^ The gal who got me into NaNo last year said we were supposed to start with nothing but an idea on November 1st. Not that it matters, because I don't have time to get my stuff all worked up before then this year anyway. ^_^ And I am like you--I edit as I write. (Which may be part of the reason why I failed last year--I kept deleting whole sections and pages. LOL!) You should sign-up "for real"--we'll cheer each other on!

Last second garbage-time catch by Antonio Gates last night put me into 1st place in my 14 team league, despite the fact I only have one credible running back.

You don't need 2 RBs when you have Drew Brees and Marques Colston.

You have Drew Brees and Marques Colston? Awesome! I have Marques Colston. I didn't expect such a big game from him against NYG. The Saints really stepped it up!

Glad to hear that your son is doing so well. The Saints are doing well. Both Favre and Rogers are good choices at this point.
The Viking D does well until the last part of the 4th quarter. Then they play some sort of prevent which allows people to march
up and down the field on them.

Briscoe is a strong football player and a lot of fun to watch. ^_^ He's very much a team player, though, and he took their losses to heart.

Favre really is doing quite well. I had wondered how he would be.

The DEFs just have me stumped this season.

If it makes you feel any better: the team I help co-own is currently sitting at 16/16. Yep, the very last in a 16 team league. But we still have hope for climbing back up into the playoffs! If we can do it, then you can climb back from 5th place. I hope your team does not have the cursed worst starter award: it's pure evil. And so embarrassing to receive (curse you, Matt Schaub!).

The Saints have been my favorite team for the past few years. Man, oh man, does Brees know how to throw a football! Their D/ST has been a saving grace to my team. I have to say/type, watching them destroy the Giants on Sunday was so amazing! And now they're going to run all over the Dolphins.

And congrats! It sounds like you have a future football star in the making with your son. The fact that he can play so well at so many positions is going to be golden for him if he keeps on playing.

My league is just a 12-team one, and we have three teams where the managers really aren't trying to win. Heck, one of them doesn't even bother to replace his bye guys. THAT is why I don't think I can climb back up in the rankings--the teams ahead of me are playing those teams and therefore will get wins, while I'm up against the team that scored over 150 points last week. LOL!

I've cheered for the Saints since I was a little girl. We lived in Biloxi and my Dad considered them the "local" team. Archie Manning was an amazing QB, but his team just had hands of stone. Gotta say, it's awesome seeing his sons be successful--and I cheer for them, too--but my heart will always be with the Saints. ^_^

Briscoe would love to play professional football--that's his dream. He's darn good at it, too. His problem is going to be his height--or lack of it. Unfortunately for him, he takes after his mother. LOL!
