use a semi-permanent, something probably like CHI Chromashine
you really don't want to use a permanent with red unless you are going to be very dedicated to going to the salon every 3 weeks. Chromashine is really good because you just use it straight out of the tube and it stays true for longer than most other reds I've used

here's a photo of my friend who uses it:

Don't use Henna!! It's sooo bad for you hair and you can't use any sort of chemicals on your hair until it grows ALL the way out. It would all break off. I'd recommend getting it done in a salon, as the process is a little more difficult than just a normal all over color.

You can only shampoo about once a week unless you want it to fade super fast and you need to use the coldest water you can stand.

actually - henna can be very very good for your hair *IF* it's done properly - gotta do lots of research and stuff for it - and you have to be careful where you get your henna from so that you can be sure you're getting REAL henna that's body art grade and crap - it's really actually a lot of work - i second the don't use henna only because it'll take LITERALLY a full day to dye and a couple days afterwards to achieve the color it's ACTUALLY going to be - but the actual henna itself is a deep conditioning treatment for your hair if it's pure - MOST of the henna on the market isn't (hence why the research is so important) - it's a pain in the butt and it's a little on the pricey side and it's messier than normal hair dye - but the color DOES tend to last longer than most commercial hair dyes

My hair was dyed with a cherry red after one bleaching from black. I have typical Asian hair so after a soft bleaching it came out soft brown and then plus the cherry red it was wine red. My stylist used a Korean dye because she said it works well with Asian hair. I've tried Western made dyes but it never came out brilliant. It was actually stupidly cheap too, like 25 cents a bottle of the actual dye that came in little lipstick sized bottles. Either way, it never ate my hair or any such horror, my hair never got dry or fried and the color stayed until I cut the hair off about a year and a half later (I still have some red tips after 2 years). I wish I could tell you exactly what brand she used, but I know that I used Matrix Biolage Color Care for after care and I will swear by it as long as I still got hair because everytime I treat my hair I use that and my hair is silky smooth after bleaching and dying.
