I *heart* Randall Munroe, really I do.

Today's axis of fruit tastiness is both brilliant and controversial, but then I was reading his blog and I discover that he has made his own ball pit instead of a couch ( Read more... )

The comment about it forming a perfect spider habitat strikes me as pertinent... It'd be cool to make one for a party, but I think it's a bit like a steady diet of chocolate -- best left for special occasions, or the thrill wears off.

All good points. It could get annoying.

Thinking about it yesterday made me realise that what I really want is a jumping castle (which is even more unlikely). I do however have a perfect sized courtyard for one, so maybe I'll have to hire one someday. :)

Maybe wait to see what those practical cleaning solutions he mentions turn out to be.

Having said that: if you get one, I will book a flight for the occasion.

I think the idea of suspending the balls in a net bag and disinfecting them makes a certain amount of sense. A friend also suggested chucking them in the washing machine which would take a while but probably work quite well.

I'll keep that in mind and keep you updated. :)

Imagine the photos you could take if you had a bunch of multicoloured balls going through a cycle in a front-loader! :D Wouldn't work so well in a top-loader, and in fact both would probably have a high risk of obstructing the drain outlet and causing damage to the machine. Hosing them down in a net seems safer, if less photogenic.
