changing to a nose hoop difficulty

Jul 06, 2010 09:18

I've been wanting to change out my nose stud with a hoop for a while now. I was considering going to some place like Hot Topic, Spencers, or even Wal Mart and getting a nose hoop there, but I heard that going to a piercing shop wouldn't be that much more expensive and that it would work out a lot better. So yesterday I went to the shop closest to ( Read more... )

Good lord, yes your piercing got stretched. I'd go ask for your money back because the person who changed your jewelry should have NEVER done that. On average, a stud is around 20g. I have mine stretched to a 16 and it took me months. Stretching cartilage is very delicate.

Go to Spencers and get a seamless ring in either 20g or 18g, they have both. And go back to that shop and tell them to remove the ring that they gave you. Hold up your stud next to the hoop and compare the sizes. She could have seriously fucked up your nose.

And go to Spencers because it's infinitely cheaper than Hot Topic, btw.

Thats what I thought! Thanks for the advice, and for actually taking the time to read all that! I was worried that it was too big just when I was looking at the hoop, but given the fact that it was basically the same shop I had gotten pierced at and the professional told me that it would work, I didn't think to challenge her "professional opinion".

If I were to take it out today and switch back to a 20g or 18g ring, would it mess up my nose? I don't wanna cause any more damage or possibly fuck it up worse. :(

Yes your piercing is stretched. You should buy high quality jewelry in 18ga and change it so your piercing can have a chance to heal. Treat it like a new piercing for the time being (sea salt soaks)
I wouldn't buy jewelry from Spencers or Hot Topic as I doubt their quality.

Spencer's has stainless steel jewelry, the same thing you'd get at BAF.

Sure but they also have glass, titanium and high quality brands such as Anatometal and Industrial Strength.
I wasn't aware that they had those choices at Spencers, but I'll admit I have not been in a Spencer's for 10 years or so.

Yeah, Spencer's has stainless steel and titanium, and she should probably change her jewelry as soon as possible, which can't happen when you're waiting for BAF to ship which can sometimes be slow.

Just putting out it there , but if you've noticed , hoops tend to be larger then studs so when you're buying , you really want to take sure it's the same size and there won't be any discreasing or increasing in size .
I had the same problem , I got my nose pierced with a ring that was 16g , and then I went to go get studs for it ( my mum wanted me to change it ) , and I kept the stud in for one day and lost it . As soon as I lost it , I went to go put my hoop back in and I found it extremely painful and hard . I got it in , but I did have to stretch it back to a 16g . And now I'm just sticking with the hoop .

My lip studs and hoops are the same size. Unless im missing something, a 16 is a 16...

There's tons of different hoops and studs .
A 16 is a 16 , but sometimes , some tend to be larger then others and some can be smaller then others .
They go by g's , not exact measurements .
Sometimes it can be a 16g but be 1 mm larger then another , and that can make all the difference .
And depending on if they studs and hoops for different types of piercings .
It's always different .
So do your research . (:
