On Sleep

Jan 11, 2010 05:20

I can't sleep tonight, for no readily apparent reason: I'm not hot or cold, hungry or thirsty, and nor is the Robin kicking me vigorously. Nor am I worried about anything in particular, I just can't sleep. Meh. So I've given up, got up, and been researching cots online. Slowly, because we somehow managed to exceed our download limit this month, and ( Read more... )

Good to know: I've seen lots of positive reviews of the Boori's online, but it's always better to hear it from someone I know is a real person and not a marketing sockpuppet. :-P

I hope you got to sleep alright. I had a night recently where I couldn't get to sleep at all until 8am (thankgoodness I didn't need to get up and go to work), so I know how frustrating it can be.

No sleep until 8am?! That would have been frustrating. My night wasn't as bad as that luckily - I think I got about three hours sleep all up (half before midnight and half after 5am) so I coped okay with work yesterday. But I was very grateful for the airconditioner bringing the house temperature down so I could sleep last night, because two bad nights in a row would have been a problem.

Another thing to look at with the drop-side if you're going to have Robin in with you for a while, see if there is a stabilising bar underneath that side of the cot so the drop-side can be fully removed if you want to. I found that having the cot hard up against the side of our bed was a really good transition as A was in his own space in the cot but was still close to me and able to be attended to without me needing to stand up. When we were selling the house he ended up on the cot mattress on the floor next to the bed as the cot was disassembled, then since we moved he's been in his own room (still on the cot mattress on the floor so he can only fall so far when he squirms ( ... )

Hmmm. I should think the cots that convert to a junior bed (no sides) should be stable with one side, but I'll check about stabilising bars next time we're shopping.

Robustness is one of the Boori and Touchwood selling points over the cheaper brands, and it sounds like it might be worth the extra money upfront to avoid destruction by bouncy toddlers. :-)

True, the junior bed option means it would have to have the side off so should be fine, ours wasn't one of those and was second-hand from a friend so it was something I had to check :-)

If you're planning on having another child then it's definitely worth paying a bit more so you don't need to buy another one for #2! Ours lasted Aidan but isn't safe to put another babe in any more :) Someone else I know had their little one constantly throwing his legs down on the mattress because he loved the shake he got from it, the cot had lasted 3-4 previous cousins but didn't survive him! They can be very adventurous little monkeys :-D

Kingparrot appears to be the same as Boori, but cheaper as you are not paying for the brand name - apparently the story is two brothers went into business together, then one split off to make a new line, then they merged them back again so they're made by the same factory. We have a Kingparrot which you are welcome to look at (but we need to do some furniture juggling to get enough space to put it up in her room!)
